littlestranger 0 #52 September 28, 2004 For a white rapper, Eminem is a marketing phenomenon. Like Marilyn Manson, you can't help but appreciate that.
skyflyingbecca 0 #53 September 29, 2004 QuoteSeems to me "Date Rape" was the song that got Sublime noticed. The song "Date Rape" was sending a message against date rape. Any idiot who listens to the whole song knows that. People who take a title or a couple lyrics and make an assumption about what the song is about are ignorant. peacefuljeffrey 0 #54 September 29, 2004 I can't really vote on this, because there doesn't seem to be a choice to fit how I feel. I don't like hip-hop. I don't view it as a "legitimate art" -- for what that's worth. I consider it, for the most part, poorly-executed poetry mixed with music. I absolutely loathe the "lifestyle" of rappers. (Yes, I still call them "rappers" -- so sue me!) But I have to admit that Eminem's rap, at least, is entertaining to me. I don't like him, I don't love him, I guess I don't hate him: but I can say that he's a bit fascinating -- and definitely talented. I have to wonder what he might have done if he was less street, more classically trained. He is definitely a polished showman. In fact, I think I plan to eventually see 8 Mile and get the soundtrack, because that one theme song from it is realy appealing and has a great pace. -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind...
