jumper03 0 #1 September 29, 2004 There's a job posting that's right up my alley at Pomona College in Claremont, CA. Looking at the map - that's around LA, so I'm leary. But why count it out? Is it nice? Looks to be a short drive from the beach and Perris and Elsinore. I guess the biggest question is do either Perris or Elsinore have full time RV hook-ups Any input on socal living greatly appreciated. I've visited UCLA for about a week and while the weather was perfect - I didn't care for all the people. Frenchy68 0 #2 September 29, 2004 Claremont is actually a great town, kind of a throw back. It is fairly close to Perris and Elsinore. Pretty suburban, but one of the nice suburbia! Great college town (Pomona College, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, etc...). Hot in summer, quite chilly at night in winter. tfelber 0 #3 September 29, 2004 I live in Corona and work in Pomona. Pomona is just up I-10 from Claremont. It would be quite a haul from Elsinore, 46 miles (I-15 and I-10 are both bad rush hour paths), or Perris, 43 miles (CA-60 and I-10 bad at rush hour). However, if you lived in Corona, like me, you'd be halfway between the two, You could take CA-71 (Lite high-speed traffic always) to the I-10 (you would be going the opposite direction of traffic) and your trip wouldn't be that bad. Corona is a smallish suburb with a even smaller feel. I'm not pro-Corona, I just moved from Phoenix and like a bigger city feel, but it has it's advantages. It's 45-60 minutes to Newport Beach, Dodgers' Stadium, DisneyLand, Angels Stadium, and Big Bear and Arrowhead Lakes. It's also only 1.5 hours to San Diego and 25 minutes from Perris and Elsinore. I hope this helps...

Frenchy68 0 #5 September 29, 2004 QuoteHey man don't you ever work... Stop using bad words Are you on the City of Corona's payroll now? Do you get a bonus every time someone moves in? Oh, and one more thing about Claremont: Snoop Doggy Dog lives there "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return." YahooLV 0 #7 September 29, 2004 Contact Perris and Elsinore for hook up info. Neighborhood is nice, and the weather is great!http://www.curtisglennphotography.com
ahegeman 0 #8 September 29, 2004 I went to Harvey Mudd. Claremont's probably a fine place to work, but unless you are a) retired, or b) married with young children, don't live there. Anything worth doing is a drive. About the only thing Claremont has going for it is the Village, which is sorta nice, if you like overpriced crappy food and glorified flea-market merchandise. Claremont is the kind of town than bans fast food joints and tattoo parlors, and the cops have nothing better to do that respond to every whiny noise complaint some old fart makes and write tickets for running broken stoplights. What Tony said - live in Corona. On the plus side, the girls at Scripps College (all womyn's college) are surprisingly easy. Just stay away from the ones with short hair. I wouldn't call it a short drive from the beach. The 10 sucks. While you're there, if you see anyone on a unicycle promise me you'll run over them, and then scream "I got your Gonzo Unicycle Madness right here, bitch!"--------------------------------------------------------------- There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. --Dave Barry

I'm sure there are a lot of people who gasped when you called a 45 mile drive to a dropzone like Elsinore or Perris "quite a haul" I live out in Redondo and it only takes me an hour to get to Elsinore. And as many people have already mentioned, Pomona is not exactly a short drive to the beach. On the other hand, when I lived in Plantation, FL (about 30-40 minutes from the beach) I still went at least weekly.
tfelber 0 #10 September 30, 2004 From Elsinore or Perris to Claremont on a daily basis during rush hour would be more than I would care to live with. That's probably 3-4 hours a day round trip, which is 15-20 hours per week, which adds up to a lot of money/time. As you mentioned... "I live out in Redondo and it only takes me an hour to get to Elsinore." I'm sure you are talking about a Saturday morning drive not 4:00-7:00pm on Friday, correct? What I read was jumper03 was looking to live at the DZ, Perris or Elsinore, and work in Claremont...

At least living is SoCal you don't have many days you can't jump. I think in the past year I had maybe 2 weekends where I couldn't jump due to weather.
