Nightingale 0 #32 September 29, 2004 I'd love to change my name. I hate my name, but I think the logistics would be a PITA...plus, I can't really think of anything I like, other than Nightingale, which is fine for a nickname/username, but wouldn't work too well professionally. Lainey 0 #39 September 29, 2004 Quote Two words: "Max Power" haha oh my gosh, i so thought the same thing! Anyway, i wasn't born with the name Lainey but i've been called it by everyone I know and meet for the past 9 years so i guess it's kind of stuck and i don't mind, I like it better than my real name. I've thought about changing it legally but, I don't know, feels a little disrespectful to my parents to change my name even though they don't even use my real name themselves. . Muenkel 0 #41 September 29, 2004 I always liked my name, but it is too common. Reading this thread made me think. The only name I came up with is Sam. The reason being is that my 6 year old nephew, who is named Sam is truly the funniest kid I have ever met. Therefore, I like Sam. _________________________________________ Chris

slug 1 #43 September 29, 2004 Hi WC Met a jumper who went to court filled out the papers without a lawyer and changed his name to Aaran, (no first name). He wanted to be the first person in the phone book at work (60K employee's). Judge asked Aaran if he was changing his name to avoid debt's etc?. Nope OK your now offically named Aaron $50-$75 please. Aaran said the only peope who gave him a hard time was the CC company. Had to have First, Last name or no CC. R.I.P.
peacefuljeffrey 0 #44 September 29, 2004 Quote If you could pick your name, what would it be? I have always liked sky- and flight-related names, and the color blue, so years ago I became very fond of the word "Azure," which according to my dictionary means, "the blue color of the clear sky." That's what I would change my name to. But I do also like "Jeffrey," which means, "heavenly peace; blessed one." Did you ever read a book by Ursula K. LeGuin called A Wizard of Earthsea? It's a great book. In the folklore of her fiction, the ultimate magical power over something comes from knowing its true name. So people go by "use names," which are like nicknames, and they are given their true names at a rite of passage ceremony by someone very trusted, who becomes the only other person to know the person's true name. I like the idea of a society in which people would be able to pick their own names. I think we should do something like that. You go a certain length of time with the name your parents give you, but when you are old and mature enough, you pick the name you want, since after all, it's all about you! Blue skies, -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

peregrinerose 0 #50 September 29, 2004 I hate my first name, Jennifer. Far too many Jens in my age group. If you call anyone from 25-32 years old Jen (who is female), chances are you are right. I'd have to go with Scout. I love that name. Read "To Kill a Mockingbird" way too much as a kid. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
