TheAnvil 0 #5 September 30, 2004 I've heard horror stories about the base housing there dude. Dunno the nearest DZ, but NawLeans is a good place to party. SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 September 30, 2004 Actually, Vinny, I have just heard the opposite. I just heard this weekend that all the on-post housing has been renovated, but it's the town outside which is the total shit-hole. Jake is a single E-6, so he will definitely be getting BAQ and living off-post. Chuck
gemini 0 #7 September 30, 2004 Good lord man, stay out of Leesville. I was there in 1967 and it hasn't changed since then! See the attached map for approximate locations of New Orleans, Tallahassee, Moss Point & Houston (Spaceland & Waller). Hope this helps. chaoskitty 0 #11 September 30, 2004 Doesnt look like theres much of anything close. Either go directly west to Bryan (Aggieland), SouthWest to Spaceland, NorthEast to East TX Skydiving in Tyler, or down to New Orleans. Looks like 3 hours drive no matter what. mnealtx 0 #15 September 30, 2004 I'm going off memory, here....so my times may not be accurate, but should be close. If you cut down and across SW, you can reach Houston in about 2.5 hours or so. Bryan/College Station is probably about the same, Westish. Leesville wasn't so bad... just have to stay away from the bars.... Catfish Junction up 171 toward town from the base has good food. Starlight (Moonlight?) Cafe, where 171 splits in the middle of town had good food also. Not much, shopping wise, unless things have changed a good bit. Wal-mart in town, Super Wal-mart in DeRidder, South on 171. North of town to the other highway (don't remember the name) and right (East) is Alexandria. Lake Charles is about 1.5 hours South. Hope this helps....Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706

Hope Chuck is right and I'm wrong on that one. chuck's right... last time i was there Sept of last year last i think, the Post itself has been seriously renovated....both housing and training areas, as part of the new digital training and simulation centers, but outside?? its a shit hole and in the middle of no where...but you can get some good crawdads and catfish in a couple of places, there is one really nice, fairly famous 'seafood' place a little ways out on the way to Alexandria, right on the lake, people pull up in their boats and eat on, or come inside for the ‘fine dining’.. live music several nights a week too. The day we went there, there was a college party going on and the eye candy was phenomenal...cant recall the name of the place though….____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
