SkydiveNFlorida 0 #1 September 30, 2004 I was selling my ti-86plus calculator on e-bay. The winning bidder sent an e-mail saying they'd be making payment, etc. The next day, they sent another e-mail saying they'd purchased it elsewhere because they needed it fast and felt there would be problems in Florida due to the hurricanes. Obviously, usps has been great and the mail has not skipped a beat, and besides that, my area has been largely unaffected. He asked that I not leave bad feedback. Well, after thinking about it for a week, I decided to leave neg feedback saying that the sale didn't go thru as the buyer decided to purchase elsewhere. I noted, nice, but did not buy. I feel kinda bad, but it is something people should know, right? Thoughts? Did I do the right thing, or am I a jerk? Angela.
AggieDave 6 #2 September 30, 2004 They won the bid then renigged on it. Definately a negitive feedback in the making.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Shotgun 1 #3 September 30, 2004 Sounds like a good reason to leave negative feedback. You're not supposed to bid unless you intend to buy. If they needed it fast then they should have discussed that with you before bidding.
Girlfalldown 0 #4 September 30, 2004 Personally I'd say you did the right thing. If they had contacted you ahead of time with their issue it would be different but they didn't even give you a heads up. Just remember he gets to leave feedback on you now. Just my opinion. -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.)

Yes, I know. But, any neg feedback he leaves for me will not be warranted. If he leaves neg feedback for no reason, is there anything I can do to appeal? Or, do I just reply to it? thx all. Angela. JohnRich 4 #6 September 30, 2004 Yes, you did the right thing. Ebay makes it abundantly clear that a winning bid is a contract, which should be honored. If they then don't follow through with payment, you are stuck with having to re-list the item. I've left negative feedback a few times. One problem with this, that you should watch out for, is that some people will automatically file a counter negative feedback against *you*, claiming some excuse. Your response to that is to just add a comment to that feedback, explaining that it is just a retaliatory attack for your own legitimate negative feedback against them. Some sellers try to intimidate you into not giving negative feedback like that. If you give in to that intimidation, then the feedback ratings become meaningless. So, if they deserve it, by gosh, do it.
Jib 0 #7 September 30, 2004 I would've left feedback: maybe negative, maybe neutral. I don't think it's cool that someone bids on something and then buys it somewhere else after waiting how long for the auction to close? He could have offered to overnight a money order or something first, if he needed it that fast. -------------------------------------------------- the depth of his depravity sickens me. -- Jerry Falwell, People v. katiebear21 0 #8 September 30, 2004 Definitely justified. I recently had to do this with a seller who I think even went so far as to give me a bad tracking number. Said the item shipped and I never received it. If I had read others comments first, I probably wouldn't have bought from the company because others experienced the same thing. Probably a scam although I felt guilty because they were a FL company and there was a small chance they were telling the truth. PhillyKev 0 #9 September 30, 2004 They entered into a legally binding contract when they bid and broke it. Definitely negative feedback. They probably found it cheaper and just decided to screw you.
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #10 September 30, 2004 On another note, I relisted the item and it sold a second time. But, apparently, my 'payment address' was wrong on the system and the money order went to my old condo which my mail is no longer being forwarded from. He mailed the money order right away, so by the time I contacted him after seeing the purchase confirmation, it was too late, it had been sent. The woman who bought the condo is spanish and I don't speak Spanish so I can't very well just go over there. What do I do if the buyer doesn't get his money order back? I know that is the chance you take when you send out a money order, but the loss would of course be my fault because when I changed my personal info on e-bay, I didn't realize that I also needed to change it in another place for payment. So, i've apologized to the new buyer and told him to contact me when he gets the money order back (assuming he does, which could be another problem), and then i'd pay shipping for him. I also told him that if he decides to buy elsewhere due to time constraints, that I understand. But, aside from this, I don't know what else I can do. :( I see a neg feedback coming my way for this one because of the whole address problem. sux:( Angela. catfishhunter 2 #13 September 30, 2004 http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/unpaid-item-process.html Did you follow all the suggestions on that page? If you agreed not to complete the sale then you should not have left negative feedback. If you did not follow everything on that page then in essence you agreed not to complete the sale and leaving them negative feedback was uncalled for. I have many times agreed not to complete sales for many different reasons and never have I left negative feedback for anyone else they flat out never paid nor contacted me. It just isn't worth my time..... I left a negative feedback for someone and, in response, they left me a negative I didn't deserve. ypelchat 0 #14 September 30, 2004 And don't forget to file a non-paying bidder alert to Ebay. They'll reimburse you your listing fees. Ebay rules are simple, and if you bid on an item, you agree to buy the item if you're the high bidder. You did the right thing for this deadbeat bidder. Yves. The guy e-mailed me saying he'd purchased elsewhere, blah blah blah, so I pretty much figured I was screwed. He asked me not to leave him neg feedback, and I told him that I don't like to leave neg feedback but he shouldn't bid on items he intends not to purchase. I never said what feedback i'd leave one way or the other. It was pretty much understood that he wasn't going to buy the item, but I didn't think I had much choice. Just cut my losses and resell. Oh, well, I guess there's nothing I can do now. Maybe I should've posted BEFORE I left the feedback

SkydiveNFlorida 0 #20 September 30, 2004 QuoteQuotebut the loss would of course be my fault You just answered your own question. So, what can I do? I can't just send out a 120$ calculator because I didn't realize the address had two places to be changed. I already lose 1/2 of what I paid just from auctioning it. I'm not sure what I can do aside from give more of a discount. I don't know what to do, I want to be fair, but it's not fair to me to just send him the calculator without my getting any compensation. You think I should offer it half of what he bid if he doesn't get the money order back? What if he gets it back, but lies and says it was lost? Man, I wish i'd known my address was wrong on there. :( angela.
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #21 September 30, 2004 Thanks. I guess at this point there isn't much to be done, though. I'll definitely seek help next time around. What do you think of the second scenario I posted (2nd time I sold it, some problems on my end with address)?> Angela.
Keith 0 #22 October 1, 2004 QuoteSo, what can I do? I can't just send out a 120$ calculator because I didn't realize the address had two places to be changed. You're kidding me right? So, you buy a $120 calculator and send it to the address the seller provided. Then the seller tells you you're shit out of luck because you sent it to the address the seller told you to send it to. Now what do you think? That's what I thought. The seller should eat the $120 because she made the mistake. You screwed up. Grow up, suck it up and do the right thing. Send the calculator.Keith Don't Fuck with me Keith - J. Mandeville

Maybe I should've posted BEFORE I left the feedback Nothing like high Ebay drama to take your mind off vehicular felicide!! I think the guy was a schmuck for not following through and purchasing. He found a better deal more local? So what? That's his excuse for blowing off your contract through the auction? Uh uh. You were not wrong for leaving negative feedback. I hope he doesn't do the same to you; but like others said, you can leave an explanation that makes him look like the jerk he made himself out to be. It's amazing, though, I've never had a real bad Ebay experience. I'm always a buyer, never a seller, though. I usually watch my auctions closely and pay within several hours of completion (because I want my stuff shipped YESTERDAY!) and they always note how fast a payer I am. Ebay is pretty cool, overall. wildcard451 0 #24 October 1, 2004 Gonna have to agree with Keith here. If you are gonna take the responsibility to sell your items, at least take the time to proofread what you send as the payment address. As far as the misrouted money order, you could find someone that speaks spanish, roll over there, and see what the deal is to try to fix your error. /Were I the buyer I would tear you a new asshole. I also hope it works out that neither one of you get screwed. Sucks any way you look at it though. Good Luck.
