LuvToFly 0 #2 October 1, 2004 Phoenix had a very suckingly expensive tax situation on rental cars out of Phoenix last time I rented out of that airport - Certainly one of the more expensive places that I have rented from - Fortunately, that is not representative of what you can get rental cars for in many other locations. l know some folks have flown into Tucson when going to Eloy just because the cars were cheaper to rent out of that city. And since Eloy is about 1/2 way between Phoenix and Tucson, the travel difference was negligible. Cornholio 0 #3 October 1, 2004 Well it's just not the taxes. You figure 1500 miles at $2.00/gallon of gas @ 25 MPG (if you're lucky) = $120. Plus you gotta get back home...so multiply that by 2 minus the Arizona RentalCarRapeTax and you're looking at close to $600.00. Plus it's going to take you about 2-3 days driving time. fly dude... much cheaper, faster, and comfortable. Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! bbarnhouse 0 #5 October 1, 2004 Quotel know some folks have flown into Tucson when going to Eloy just because the cars were cheaper to rent out of that city. On average it costs more to fly into Tucson than Phoenix. Try checking rental cars off the airport. They generally have a shuttle to the rental site, and most times are less expensive. The other option is to take the J & M shuttle from Phoenix to Eloy. Cost is about $75 each way less if there is more than 1 person. That information can be found here
chaoskitty 0 #6 October 1, 2004 Am I just having a blonde moment or is $299 still more expensive than $249, and therefore the airfare is still more? I see that renting a car is *almost* as much as the plane ticket. Quit being all confusing Kai. rmsmith 1 #7 October 1, 2004 You should consider the "full" insurance for that rental car. If something should happen the extra cost of the insurance will be cheap. Here's the catch: you not only pay for the damage, but also for the time that the car is not available as a rental, which could add up quickly. Enjoy! Airman1270 0 #9 October 1, 2004 ...fly dude... much cheaper, faster, and comfortable... _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ If absolutely necessary, I'll fly. Otherwise, I refuse to pay all that money to be treated like a piece of crap at the airport. I've made three cross-country auto trips in the past few years. Gas & lodging cost less than the airfare would have been, I was able to bring my guitar, rig, and other stuff without worrying about getting them back intact, had a pleasant time on the road, and didn't get hassled by some brainless airport employee whose job it is to 1) meet a quota regarding searches and 2) avoid hassling people who fit the profile of those who have a history of terrorism and who might actually pose some sort of threat to air travelers. kai2k1 0 #10 October 1, 2004 Sorry didn't mean to confuse your Kitty.... I think I'm just going to land and hitchhike to Eloy that is IF and thats a big IF I can even go. Most airports have a fee that they charge the dealers PER CAR rented, that gets passed on to the consumer. If you can find an off airport rental company, and provide your own transportation to them (cab or what not) you can save LOTS per day. Sometimes 15 to 20 bucks. If you are going to rent for a week that can really make the difference.skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
