peacefuljeffrey 0 #1 October 2, 2004 Coral Castle homepage I want to know if anyone here has been to it, or knows more about it than this website tells. Apparently, this dude who was jilted by his fiancee built this garden of coral stone as a testament to his love for her. It took him like decades to complete it. Anyway, as the site explains, it's supposedly a marvel of engineering, and a mystery as to how he accomplished it -- allegedly alone, despite the coral pieces weighing tons. Check out the info on the 9-Ton-Gate. It's supposedly so perfectly balanced, they say, that it can be pushed open (it revolves) with one finger. But here's what I don't understand: how can it be pushed so easily just because it is balanced? Nine tons is nine tons, with all the inertia involved. The site is pretty poorly written and explained. It does not tell the story very comprehensively. And I have to wonder what PROOF there is that this guy built this place alone; that no one can figure out or understand how it was done; that it could not be duplicated... Just because they SAY no one ever saw him get assistance or use machinery, that to me does not assuage my skepticism. I had heard of this place before, and it came up in a conversation at work tonight. Anyone know more about it? -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... airtwardo 7 #2 October 2, 2004 It was in a 'Discovery Channel' special a couple years ago... Some friends & I went through it a LONG time ago during a spring break visit to hurricane land. The builder was still alive then and passing the hat for tours. I believe it's been moved a few miles since then... Which brought it a lot of attention, all the men & equipment it took to relocate it...considering the lack of manpower used to build it the first time. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
