John4455 0 #1 October 4, 2004 I hate it when you order something and they charge you 2-3 times (or more) the actual cost of shipping. How do ya like it Johnny?
Nightingale 0 #2 October 4, 2004 sometimes they have to charge for packing materials and pay personnel to prepare and ship the item. on eBay, I charge $4.00 or so to ship a necklace. Actual cost for postage is about $2.00... thing is, I ship in padded envelopes that cost about $2.00. A lot of times people don't think about the price of packing materials. WFFC 1 #3 October 4, 2004 $2.00 for shipping here too, but that is also international in most cases. The two overall generally balance out so I haven't segmented the groups (accounting nightmare) to have different shipping levels.----- ~~~Michael
Nightingale 0 #4 October 4, 2004 I ship insured for ebay stuff, so that adds a buck fifty or so. I think basic shipping is $.60.
LouDiamond 1 #5 October 4, 2004 A reasobable fee is understandable but ebay has some of the most outrageous shipping charges sometimes. I think some people purposely lower the cost and make the differenence up in the shipping charge. I will go out of my way to buy from someone else if I feel the S&H is inflated on an item. Do they honestly think we don't know how much it costs to ship an item?"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
unformed 0 #6 October 4, 2004 I sell on Ebay. There's two reasons people do this: 1) Shipping isn't charged commission by Ebay, so reducing the price and charging more for shipping results in a lower commission, which eventually results in a lower price for the buyer. This goes against Ebay rules, but it's still done. 2) Shipping costs more than just the price of postage. The shipping material, packing, and even gas to go to the Post Office cost money. Some people print their own labels, in which case ink and epostage service fees cost money. Yes, often times they are slightly overcharged ($1-2), but if it's clearly listed, what's the problem? This ad space for sale.
LouDiamond 1 #7 October 4, 2004 Quote2) Shipping costs more than just the price of postage Roger, got it and I totally understand the reasonable offset. But when you see an item that is reasonably priced and then look at the S&H and it's twice as much if not more than what you'd pay for postage, supplies etc. you have to wonder who's getting the better deal. I know most people are on the up and up but you see plenty of the other end as well."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
