DanG 1 #26 November 3, 2009 How about answering the question? I know what a half-hitch is. I don't have any idea how (or why) you could do that with a loop of rubber band. - Dan G

Don't know how anyone would attach a rubber by any other way than a larkshead... So I too am curious what he means?"Damn you Gravity, you win again"
KellyF 16 #28 November 3, 2009 The locking stow rubber bands had been put on the standard way with a larks head, then later broke. The person that packed the canopy then used the long piece of the rubber bands to half hitch the locking stows instead of replacing the rubber bands.VSE on Facebook
RMURRAY 1 #29 November 3, 2009 sorry. I misunderstood. I thought Kelly was talking about execessive line after the last stow becoming entangling (somehow half hitched) with a locking stow when you rotate the bag while closing the container. Something we are all taught to watch out for from student status.

RMURRAY 1 #31 November 5, 2009 QuoteIts a Racer Tandem. I thought the Speed Bag design was to eliminate that situation from ever occurring. Nancy at Jumpshack has let me know the rig was NOT equipped with a speedbag and that a speedbag would have prevented it from occuring.
Cashmanimal 0 #32 November 5, 2009 While i did not take this particular photo, I have probably 50-75 jumps doing video for this TM... On my first jump with him ever, I captured a near identical photo... In other words, not the first/only/last time this will happen. There was also a string of premature openings and drogue discrepancies mixed in there somewhere as well... I was told it was an issue with a packer (who no longer works there), but I still didn't like many things I saw with that rig. I'm not a TM, but if I were, my experience thus far would steer me away from the Racer... I won't poke a stick in any fires though, I'll worry about that if i ever decide to strap people instead of cameras to myself. It was once suggested to me as a videographer to pop up for the opening, since there is no trap door on this rig... raised a couple flags for me, seems against the physics of a drogue release (in addition to the fact that the pop-up trick is a well-known no-no). I do like how the drogue sits the tandem more upright though (from a video perspective). It's all fun and until someone loses an eye... then it's just a game to find the eye
mike_forsythe 0 #33 November 9, 2009 From what I can see in the picture there are a few observations that can be made and only that. The bag is not a speed bag, the container is not a current production as the drogue release design that is shown in the picture was changed about 5-6 years ago. This issue is not restricted to this brand tandem only. There are many variables and packing is one that I would be looking at. While I agree with others about the RSL, I don't know if they still offer it but they used to make a single sided RSL for the containers. All tandem containers have their issues. I personally saw a release system that is considered the in thing right now fail thee out of four times on actual emergency deployments.
