Help! Should I cut my hair???

Recommended Posts

I need some serious advice, I'm contemplating cutting my forever beloved hair. Lemme ask you guys a question: don't you get sick of seeing someone with the same old hairstyle, day in and day out for over 5 years???
Well, I have kept my hair long ( past my shoulders), red, and thick and wavy for the past 5 years or more. I'm afraid to part with it honestly, but I think a change is in order. What should I do???
(Keep in mind my hair is my favorite feature) I mean, do you guys, especially you men, hate seeing someone with the same long hair over and over again??

and one more thing, if I showed up at home with shorter hair AND a tattoo, my dad would freak!!! ( he loves long hair and hates tattoos!):D:D

I say cut it off and donate it to a foundation that makes wigs for kids with cancer.

You can always grow it back B|

If it's your favorite feature, figure out what you like about it, and emphasize that. It's your hair, and it'll grow if you don't like the result.

If you like its fullness, you can cut it a little shorter (just below your shoulders) with enough layering to make it feel even fuller; plus less weight will make it bounce more.

It might be a good time to spend a little more money on a haircut, and talk with a stylist who can really help you to see possibilities. Or find a computer program that will let you try things on your own face. Either way, it'll grow back if you decide it sucks. And it's much easier to take care of when it's short.

Mine used to be down almost to my waist. Over the years, it's now about the length you see at the left at its longest.

And I'm just not perspicacious enough about style and fashion to care about whether someone's hair is the same style for years. Unless the style really sucks. But for me to notice it, it has to really
suck.

I don't think I have ever said to myself "I wish that person would change her hairstyle... ;) " I personally like long hair but short hair looks good too. Sooooo my opinion would be do whatever makes you happy ... You might just go a little shorter and see if you like it then if so cut more off...
Or change the color, seems to work for me when I get bored with mine... lol...

yeah, that's actually what inspired me! A girl on my floor with really long hair gave her hair to locks of love and her new haircut looks fresh and up to date.. Honestly though, I don't think mine's long enough to donate...[:/]

DON'T DO IT!!!!

Ok, I'm not a guy but from a girl's perspective (one who has long hair, cut it, and had to grow it back because I hated it short), at least spend the extra $$ to go to one of those salons where they will put your face on short hair to see if you REALLY like it. If you want to go cheaper, do it yourself. Cut a picture of a short hairstyle you want out of a magazine, cut your face out of a picture, and start pasting.

Really, really, really think it over before you do it. That old line "it will always grow back" doesn't do crap for you when you are in tears looking at your beautiful locks of hair on the ground.

Locks of Love- I think is one

Always a great idea to help others in need out. You know that someone will be putting it to better use. It's hard to part with long hair, mine was down to my butt almost, but I now have short hair and love the change.

Change is in order, shake it up a little, and worst case you don't like it as much. I'm sure you can still manage to pull of a cute short doo. Just go to a good stylist, even if its more $$ it will be worth it! Put your mind at ease, I was super freaked but it turned out great.

Do you have a good front and side pic of yourself? Post it and let the photoshoppers play.

Cmon, don't you want to know what you'd look like with a mullet? :)

I got bored with my hair and decided to change the color a bit - let the stylist play with the condition that it stays red but not orange - and got 2 inches cut off the length. Definitely was a needed change for me, and the parts that were cut off were just dead ends anyway.

Maybe start with something mild - like a good trim and a color change. You can always go shorter later.

Maybe do it in stages? Cut off some, then cut off some more, and then some more, that way if you reach a point you don't like it then it won't take so long to grow out.

oh, good advice, my preeee...cccc....iiiooooouuuuusssss. ( can you tell I'm itchin to watch LOTR)?!!!
and good advice too, ladyskydiver.

That's exactly what my hairdresser would recommend to me under those circumstances. I've known him a long time and he told me once if I went in there demanding a radical change, he'd probably make me think about it for a week first!

Windcatcher, you seem to really like your long hair, so think carefully before you make any decisions!

I have long hair now, and did 4 years ago when I chopped off 14 inches to donate to wigs for kids. Locks of love is the other organization that does the same thing.

I'm glad I did it, was very easy to take care of, though very weird brushing my hair and finding more than a foot of it missing. Now I'm back to long hair again, and am entertaining the thought of doing wigs for kids again.

There's no right or wrong, go with your gut and what you like/want. Anyone else's opinion doesn't matter, you have to live with it.

Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

ok - a nice short hairstyle would be nice on you. It would frame your face and give you a nice variety of hairstyles to choose from.

the one of me and my friend Desirae, that was two summers ago, it's shorter now and I straightened it.

Is this the one? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Personal_Galleries/windcatcher/Sarahs_Pics/Boogie_Pictures&image=sarahdesirae.jpg&img=&tt=

Here's another one that shows your face more: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?action=view&link=Personal_Galleries/windcatcher/Sarahs_Pics/Boogie_Pictures&image=sarahchad.jpg&img=&tt=

I think the long hair looks nice on you. But I understand how much of a PITA it can be, I used to have long hair myself. Now it's extremely short and never a hassle.

But then I was never good looking so I don't have to worry about how I look ;)
