DivaSkyChick 0 #1 October 5, 2004 Did anybody watch this tonight? This great guy dying of cancer goes skydiving but at the last second leaves his rig behind... And everybody thinks, gee, what a great way to go... I'm really upset about it. It was just a second ago so this is totally my gut reaction but I was really pissed off. I don't even know why yet. Just wondering if anyone else saw it... --- www.facebook.com/mandyhamptonfitch
gravityizsexy 0 #2 October 5, 2004 didn't see it, but I would say that it's just another way of making whuffos associate skydiving with certain death. Sounds more like suicide to me... which I posted in another thread, is one of the things I can't stand, tolerate, or dignify with condolence... now, not being a cancer patient... I couldn't even begin to comprehend what life is like for them (the pain, the lifestyle, the emotions, etc...) and I have heard that living is more painful than not. I can't respond to that... cause I don't know. I hold the DZ responsible.... or whoever set him up for the dive... and personally, thats a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE way to go... nothing passionate about it. -Tony "'Someday is not a day in my week'"

lewmonst 0 #4 October 5, 2004 Hey Mandy! Long time no see... I saw it and it was lame. It looked like he had on an old strong tandem rig, no chest strap fastened or even leg straps on, he just slipped it off his shoulders and left the door. What was funnier is the Tandem Instructor behind them UNHOOKED the girl and they BOTH rushed to the door to see him fall... How stupid. It was lame, funny though, in a lame kinda way. Too bad suicide give skydiving a bad rap. but this was so hollywood-fake-lookin, i wouldn't worry about it. peace lew ps, come visit perris sometime stranger!http://www.exitshot.com

That's very unkind to your sky brethren. The scene was pretty cheezy though, with the unattached rig. Certainly conveys the idea that anyone at the door could suddenly decide to drop the rig and die. kingbunky 3 #6 October 5, 2004 i saw that and was kind of looking forward to the skydiving bit all through the show, but then started to get a bad feling about it and sure enough, the guy decides to bounce himself. kinda pissed me off."Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart." sid 1 #7 October 5, 2004 Let's not get this out of perspective.... it's a tv show which is good for nothing more than boobies and eye candy and mindless entertainment (and to prop up James Caan's sagging career) - I'm sure that the writers and producers didn't intend to malign the skydiving bidnez or the vegan/vegetarian community (while we're talking about last night's show). Don't be so sensitive about our community while watching a show like that, instead grab a brewski, lean back and take in the view(s) - Damn Vanessa Marcil is HOT!!!!!!!!Pete Draper, Just because my life plan is written on the back of a Hooter's Napkin, it's still a life plan.... right? BIGUN 1,486 #8 October 5, 2004 I watched the program. Sure, there was the initial "How cheesey" and so he's going to solo with a Strong Tandem? Me thinks not and especially with the chest strap undone. But, I'm with Sid. It aired last night, that bell can't be unrung, you might as well pass it on to the whuffos who approach you about it as.... it was just television.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard. Just wondering if anyone else saw it... It pissed me off as well, Mandy. When the casino security guy (who was supposedly a TM also) went "YEAH!" after the guy left the rig in the plane I was not happy. Oh, I was especially not happy when the idiot did it right over downtown Las Vegas. Very, very poor choice of endings for that show. edited to add: yes, he was wearing a Strong tandem rig; so was the other guy. Having the hotel security "magically" being a tandem master reminded me of old "CHiPs" episodes where Ponch and John would partake of adventurous sports, including skydiving with some degree of competency, on a regular basis in their off time. DivaSkyChick 0 #13 October 5, 2004 Hey beauty! Thanks for the reply - and to all of you as well. I don't know why it bugged me so much, of course it was cheesy but I guess just knowing - what a fucked up way to die, not at all what the average audience is imagining - not cool at all. I could feel the terror of the ground rushing up and nothing you can do. I felt it. I had nightmares about it last night. Clearly it's been too long since I've jumped. Stupid job. Hey Chucky! It's been forever... Might maybe make it to Eloy for Xmas. Definitely be at chicks rock so I'll see a lot of you then. I miss you all! He is commando Marine too, so being a jumper isn't far fetched. TM is a different matter.
