davedlg 0 #1 October 5, 2004 Based on a few posts lately and some talk around the DZ, I think it goes without saying that skydivers are speed demons when it comes to driving. So how fast do you usually go?

flyinghonu 0 #3 October 5, 2004 I live in San Diego where it is actually MORE dangerous to go the speed limit than not. I'm not kidding either. Flow of traffic is usually somewhere between 75-80 mph, if you are going under that, people are literally dodging you on the freeway. Lovely, eh? Muenkel 0 #6 October 5, 2004 I have always been a speed demon, luckily with only a few tickets. I don't recommend it though. I guess I'm growing up. However, since my head injury, if I exceed 35mph my perception gets screwy. _________________________________________ Chris

kelel01 1 #8 October 5, 2004 I tend to go 5-10 over on surface streets, but 15-20 over on interstates (which always leads to me going "FUCK!" everytime I pass a cop.) I try to remember to set my cruise control for 10 over most of the time, though.
flyangel2 2 #9 October 5, 2004 Excuse me? Remember me? I was with you a few mornings driving to the DZ. mhartboca 0 #11 October 5, 2004 i wouldn't be surprised if there's some psychological trait that would correlate a propensity to speeding to also taking up a sport like skydiving. Or vice versa. Or not. I have a fun game i like to play. On highway exits, when there's an exit speed posted - i like to try to take the exit at TWICE the posted speed. Not the whole exit mind you, but to at least hit 2x posted at some point... you lose points for leaving the roadway or rolling your vehicle...Michael Hart
Darius11 12 #12 October 5, 2004 I speed all the time. I enjoy it and some times just go out for a drive. 15 over the speed limit is usually when I feel like I am driving normal. It is not uncommon for me to hit 100Mph on the highway. gjhdiver 0 #14 October 5, 2004 QuoteBased on a few posts lately and some talk around the DZ, I think it goes without saying that skydivers are speed demons when it comes to driving. So how fast do you usually go? I drive or ride as fast as possible all the time. It's just sheer habit now. I've been using the cruise control on the car for a while though, until a few points drop off the license. I'm on yet another warning from the DMV. Dougiefresh 0 #15 October 5, 2004 I got a ticket last Wed. getting down to SDC. 20 over in a 65. Only a $75 ticket in IL, in WI it'd be like $175. Yes, I speed. Always. At least 15 over, otherwise it feels like I'm crawling. DrewEckhardt 0 #16 October 5, 2004 QuoteBased on a few posts lately and some talk around the DZ, I think it goes without saying that skydivers are speed demons when it comes to driving. So how fast do you usually go? Depends where I'm going, what I'm driving, what the visibility is, what the laws are, and how many tickets I've had recently. When I was going to the second closest DZ more often with no recent infractions I'd do a bit under 100 MPH since there was good visibility (miles), it would leave me six points more before I lost my license, and was still an infraction that couldn't get me sent to jail. With more recent tickets I'll stick to under 10 over.

Dumpster 0 #18 October 5, 2004 I'm allergic to speeding tickets. I've had some really good ones, too. (Like 30 over the limit and getting faster-) On the interstates I'll run with the pack. Other than that I'm 5-10 over at the most. Around Chicago you can get creamed for running the limit. Easy Does It

Sheenster303 0 #23 October 5, 2004 QuoteI drive in and around Atlanta. Either you Speed or you get ran over. So very true. My mom drives 5 below the speed limit around Atlanta and I keep telling her she needs to go faster or she'll get run over. She never listens to me though. kinney29 0 #25 October 5, 2004 I have had some 12 speeding tickets over the years. Though I don't have any points on my liscence. They all came when I was in the military and out of state. And my then stete of residence (NY) did not except out of state tickets. Since then I have slowed way down.
