dropdeded 0 #1 October 7, 2004 Dad gave me an 88 Dodge Dakota 4WD a few months ago. Put it in my name within a week. Had a camper shell and lumber rack. Just took the camper shell off 3 days ago. Tags were due Sep., just insured it (yeah, I know), went to DMV this morning, left the registration on my desk at home, gave them license number, was asked if it has a camper shell, said no, took it off days ago. I was told I had to surrender the plates, get the truck weighed, and re-register it WTF?? It dont say "commercial vehicle" nowhere on the registration. This lady was rude and I kept cool and remained polite. Told me I would get a ticket, so I said, "how about I just put the camper shell back on?" Not sure what Im gonna do, I took the f*ckin thing off because I WANT it off. Anyways, blah blah blah. what would you do? dropdeded------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
RevJim 0 #2 October 7, 2004 Easy. Move to WI. Anything between Class A and C Trucks (That would be an A or a B, your choice depending on how much you might want to haul weight wise) are set fees. Hell, I have a 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4 registered as a class A. http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/drivers/docs/bvs507-a.pdfIt's your life, live it! Phillbo 11 #3 October 7, 2004 Go back with the registration and tell them it has the shell on it .
BartsDaddy 7 #4 October 7, 2004 I could be wrong but from my understanding of Kalifornia law is any pickup can be registered with non comercial plates, But if you get caught hauling anything in the bed of that pickup even a grocery sack you will get a ticket, camper shell or not.-------------------------------------------------------------------- Handguns are only used to fight your way to a good rifle
DTOXX 0 #5 October 7, 2004 While I have no idea why they would ask about the shell I do know that I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for using their truck to haul stuff. ------- D.T. Holder SIMstudy
