He actually took the cat in to the vet to have some of its hair shaved because Houston summer's are hot. This was while he was in law school and living in a place with window unit air conditioners. Maybe cats enjoy a good trim once in a while? I've never had a long haired cat before so I wouldnt personally know, but I know horses love a good clipping when their hair gets a bit shaggy. You said yourself, Max did not like it at all! What he did is not the same as trimming or shaving to help them cope with extremely hot temperatures or to get rid of mats. Even posing the cat for the original picture was mean, but some cats tolerate that kind of thing better than others and it was probably only for a few minutes anyway!
