Just because there are two people who break the law and only one of them gets caught doesn't mean that the person who got caught isn't guilty.

No, it means that you have the ability to listen to him. Just like as a Sirrus Subscriber you can listen to the normal band channels but not listen to the NFL GameDay stuff since you are not paying for that package.

Bo you and I had this conversation last fall I think it was...I hate the jackass with my whole being, but I still admire your trying to uniformly protect peoples' rights no matter how much of an ass-clown they happen to be...:S Who knows, maybe someday people will try to ban me from the internet, (>:() but I have the same rights as everyone else too.

Exactly. I don't like the guy, he show isn't that funny, and I could put together a daily show like that easily...been there done that. Hell, the guy even named me in a lawsuit. I have no reasons to support him. Except one. Freedom of Speech.

I'll try not to cross the SC lines, but there are people on this forum that want a particular "right" to be there without rules and laws and they bitch about it all the time. Speech should be the same way - no rules or laws, our forefathers said nothing about the seven deadly words or Janet Jackson's boob.

I would do whatever it took to defend Stern's right to say whatever he wanted.

The one thing that I just can't get over is democracy within our rights...if the majority of people think something is BAD and should be BANNED then I still believe in democracy rule...however I think to make it fair it should set a clearly-defined precedent for what is acceptable and what is not. <--Did I just counter everything I just said above? :S:P Ah well, not for nothing...I hope I got my point across.

That hurt my head, so I am not going to reply! :P

not a specific reply to you brian,

but I kinda like threads like these once in awhile.

its so great to see how one mans name can inflame a huge debate about a great injustice that has been forcing people to listen to the radio:ph34r::ph34r:

Actaully his channel won't be a premium channel. That's one of the reasons he chose Sirrius over XM (that and Clear Channel owns part of XM).

This is a huge deal, and it will hasten the demise of standard terrestrial radio. Not Stern alone, but he's the first big name, big money earner to make the switch. If he proves he can be profitable in that media, others are sure to follow. Like it or not, he was the vanguard of syndicated radio.

Broadcast television has been crippled by cable, the same thing will happen to broadcast radio. It would happen eventually anyway, but Stern's move is a huge push in that direction.

I think it is a great victory against the 'right wing' censors that think everything must be so pure, when in fact most people are not so pure.

At least Stern says what he means and means what he says and the great thing is, if you do not want to listen to it you do not have to.

I am all for titties and SHIT on TV, turn it off if you do not like it, but do not limit my ability to see or hear it.

I won't hold it against you. I knew if we crossed paths often enough, we'd find *something* to agree upon!

True, very true but as others here have eluded to, i voted with my tuner years ago. Both radio and TV are never tuned to his programs. I'm all for freedom of speech, but that doesn't mean I have to weep when a personality I happen to dislike chooses to make it even easier to avoid him. (I use XM).

The radio station that carries him down here fired their morning show over the summer to carry Stern. The main guy was to have his first kid like a week later. I wonder what their gonna do now

No one I knew could believe it when they droppped Mark for Howard Stern! Mark's baby was a week away, the ratings were up and had stayed up for YEARS. I listened to them since their debut 9 years ago. And Cindy the local skydiving DJ worked on that morning show too!
I haven't listened to that station since, and that really sucks because their music was awesome. I hope they go outta business. >:(

Hell, I'm considering satellite radio in the next few years, and Stern nudged me over the edge into getting it.

Well, marketing geniuses have pushed a gullible populace into buying water in bottles at prices that exceed that of gasoline (by a huge margin); oxygen in "oxygen bars"; and jeans that are already 80% worn out; so why shouldn't it make sense that they can convince people to pay for what once was free -- radio? :S

Stern kicks ass, and I will be subscribing to continue to hear him. It will be nice to finally hear him be as creative as he wants to be.

I rather think it will be nice to see him FAIL to be creative, and fall on his moronic face.

As far as trying to put on a pose to make everyone like him, Stern is worse than Michael Moore. There is no consistency in what he says or does. Remember when he thought he'd make such a great governor for NY? And then he wouldn't run -- after running off at the mouth -- because there were tax/income disclosures he'd have to make? I guess he used that as his convenient excuse to not have to stand behind his own line of bullshit. He's always been full of shit. Now he'll have a chance to prove just how full.

Yes, and TV was once free as well. And hey, wasn't the point of paying for cable TV that there wouldn't be commercials? Yeah, well...

I subscribe to Sirius, and no matter what you might think, I'm certainly not gullible. I don't expect the lack of commercials to last forever, but it's really just a perk. I live in a crappy market, where there was just one really great station which got yanked and changed over to a country station about 9 months ago. I'd already been considering satellite radio anyway, that was the last straw. The music selection just can't be beat, especially in smaller markets.

Sirius has now become cheaper than XM if you factor in what you have to pay XM to get everything you get included with Sirius (web broadcast, sports stations, etc.). And no matter what I think of Howard Stern, I'm a Sirius stockholder, so he made my week with that little announcement! My stock price just shot up, and if he brings even a few million of his listeners over in fifteen months...:)

Well Said.

The thing that frightens me? That the average intellect is stupid enough to actually enjoy listening to this piece of shit.

He hasn't done anything new since he started his crappy show.

It is proof though, should be to everyone, that you can make it out here, and make it big.

And you don't really need any brain cells whatsoever to do it.

Ummm, being bombarded by commercials isn't exactly free.

And TV?
