Howard Stern says goodbye to radio.....

Recommended Posts

....broadcast radio that is. He has signed a $500 million dollar contract with Sirrius satellite radio service. The word is that 1 million of his 10 million listeners will need to subscribe for the company to recover their investment.

Unless they change the laws (which they are talking about), Stern is now beyond the reach of the FCC.

I'll restate it, what an ASSHAT.

:D Yep.
Juvenile crap; boring, immature, unfunny.

When I lived in NY and commuted, I tried to listen to him and find it funny, I really did. It just wasn't. It was him and Robin Quivers chuckling about stuff the audience had no idea about -- like people laughing about snippets of stories from a drunken party they were at the night before that you did not attend. And you're just listening to them back and forth trying to get an idea of what went on and why it was supposedly funny.

Ugh. It got old real fast.

Damnit I new I liked you.

Stern is a complete Asshat.

I've been bored with him for so long.

I'm not a fan either - has something to do with him naming me in a lawsuit among other issues.

However, I am glad the FCC will have to find another scape goat.

Stern was funny... to high school kids... in 1987.
I'm glad he's goin'.

And what goes around comes around...
The radio station that carries him down here fired their morning show over the summer to carry Stern. The main guy was to have his first kid like a week later. I wonder what their gonna do now.:D

Very typical of radio to have no tack like that. Saw it all the time. Brutal.

I LOVE Stern. I listen to him every morning. I get the 1st hour of the show on my way to work. The 1st hour is more of a political/social commentaty than T&A jokes.

He truly IS the King of all Media. #1 Radio Show, #1 Book, #1 Movie....Who else can say that. And who else has a $100 mil a year contract?

OMG and you use how much something SELLS to determine how "GOOD" it is?! That standard is pathetically laughable.

You know what also sold millions? Beanie Babies. 'Nuff said. :|

I'm an on again, off again fan. I'll listen to him for a month, then get bored, then six months later give him another month. I'll listen to sports radio..

On the other hand, he can give some dern good interviews. And he's a helluva lot better than Bob & Tom (whose phony laughter drives me nuts.)

Good riddance.

I saw a sound byte from Stern on TV, predicting the demise of AM and FM radio, with his departure. He's an arrogant asshole.

I'll bet that the number of satellite radio subscribers who tune in to listen to his worthless crap, is a lot less than what he's had in free radio.

No bet John...you're dead on there!

In fact, the cost of satellite radio will probably go up
because they will have to recoup the loss somehow!

There is no way 1 million of his loyal listeners
are going to give up Crack and get a job just to
continue hearing his dribble!! :P

Hell, I'm considering satellite radio in the next few years, and Stern nudged me over the edge into getting it. I have never heard the second 1/2 of the show, I usually listen to the 2nd hour on my commute to work. Yes, he's gross, and derogatory, and full of a studio of boobs (I have my own, don't give a damn about anyone else's). But underneath the idiocy is a very intelligent man. His political stances I almost always disagree with, but at least his opinions are well thought out. His strippers and porn stars are put in positions where they turn out to be incredibly stupid as people, so at the same time there's boobflaunting, you see just how superficial these people are. He harasses every guest on every interview, but at the end of every one he sets the joking aside and shows them genuine respect.

I think he's strange, probably mildly mentally ill (he admits to being obsessive/compulsive), but extremely intelligent.

Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Perfect! What was so hard to understand in the first place? Broadcast media is regulated. Don't like it? Spew your shit someplace else. He can push as much crap as he wants to now. God bless America!

Freedom of Speech needs to be equal. Stern replayed a portion of Oprah's TV show and the FCC wanted to fine HIM and only him for what was said on that segment. I don't like the guy, but I like the FCC even less.

Just because there are two people who break the law and only one of them gets caught doesn't mean that the person who got caught isn't guilty.

Bo you and I had this conversation last fall I think it was...I hate the jackass with my whole being, but I still admire your trying to uniformly protect peoples' rights no matter how much of an ass-clown they happen to be...:S Who knows, maybe someday people will try to ban me from the internet, (>:() but I have the same rights as everyone else too.

The one thing that I just can't get over is democracy within our rights...if the majority of people think something is BAD and should be BANNED then I still believe in democracy rule...however I think to make it fair it should set a clearly-defined precedent for what is acceptable and what is not. <--Did I just counter everything I just said above? :S:P Ah well, not for nothing...I hope I got my point across.
