happythoughts 0 #1 October 12, 2004 I think it sucks and I don't use it. I have voicemail. If I am on the phone, it takes a message. Is it that incovenient? I've had people do it when I called them long-distance. To me, call-waiting is a form of rudeness. Like you are talking to someone and someone else just walks up and interrupts. The person you are talking to says, "Just a second, someone else more important wants to talk to me. Stand there quietly and I'll get back to you after an indeterminate time." This concludes my personal rant.
Paige 0 #2 October 12, 2004 I agree with you but sometimes it is necessary. I know when I was in the hospital in FL, the nurse had to keep trying to get a hold of my parents because my Mom wouldn't click over. I happen to know for a fact that whoever she was talking to was far less important than me and my severly broken hip. It can be rude but it can be useful. I was all alone in the hospital, scared (never broke a bone before let alone the freakin hip), and all I really wanted to do was hear from my parents.Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com
eeneR 3 #3 October 12, 2004 I have the easy fix...I have caller ID for call waiting...I can see who is calling and determine if this call is to be picked up or if it can just go to voicemail. wmw999 2,589 #4 October 12, 2004 I don't have it, and don't plan to get it, for all the same reasons. Before there was call waiting, you could have the operator interrupt an ongoing call if it was important enough (I even did that once, so it's true). I'll bet you still can, and if it's not that important, then the current conversation is more important. Of course, that's easy to say because the vast majority of my conversations last no more than a couple of minutes. I really don't like hanging on the phone for too long normally. happythoughts 0 #7 October 12, 2004 QuoteHT-- are you possessed by my father? What's your take on cell phones and pagers? Are they electronic leashes? The only use that I see for beepers is for workgroup stuff. A beeper that is rotated through the group for night calls. Beepers are cheaper than cell phones. I got a cell phone because I have friends who in area codes that would be long distance. It saves me money. I never gave out the number because I rarely turned it on. It was for my convenience. I use it a lot more now, but I've only given out the number to less than 10 people and I don't mind them calling. I'm generally at work or home, so I'm easy to find anyway. happythoughts 0 #10 October 12, 2004 QuoteSoooo whats your cell phone number HT? "I'll call you in the morning..." Sure... like I believe that one. I know your type. Making promises and taking advantage of my virtue... well I'm not putting up with it, you hear? I'm wise to your wiles. However... those nekkie pics you promised to PM would probably evoke an immediate response. I feel that element of trust between us.
Nightingale 0 #11 October 12, 2004 My parents got call waiting when I was in college. I was 17, and I'd been trying to call them from the emergency room where I was sitting there with a broken bone to get parental consent for them to treat me. The phone was busy for quite a long time. I finally had to call the next door neighbor late at night to get them to walk over and tell my dad to hang up the damn phone.
happythoughts 0 #12 October 12, 2004 QuoteI think HT wants to be on the DD list! I used to have a stalker for about 6 months who would get drunk and call me up and say disgusting things. I found a solution though, no collect calls.
kelel01 1 #13 October 12, 2004 Well, if you didn't want me to call, you should have just said so. Geez, call a guy 50-100 times over a couple of months and you're branded a "stalker".

Another is when you are in someones office when the phone rings and they interrupt the conversation to answer it; In a sense implying that ANYONE else calling is more important that the person standing in their office. When someone is in my office and the phone rings, I ignore it. It will go to voice mail and I will call them back after I have finished the current conversation."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. The phone calls are ok, but you need to get a new phone. Every time you call, there is this "buzzing" sound on the line.
