glgflyer 0 #1 October 12, 2009 I have always used a standard analogue altimeter only. However, I do have some interest in a digital to wear along with my analogue. But since I wear eyeglasses, all the digitals I have looked at either have readouts that are too small or the contrast is so that I can hardly make out the numbers. That is until I saw the picture of this Altitron digital made by Parasport. From the picture it appears to have a VERY large and easy to read display. If anyone who has experience with this altimeter could give me some feedback on the quality and if it is in fact as easy to read as the photos show, I would really appreciate it very much. PhreeZone 20 #2 October 12, 2009 Its crap. Or at least one I had was. I gave it away since it was so hard to see though the sun glare, the size is huge for a back of the hand mount and it sucked though battereies really fast. If you want to jump in polarized sunglasses you will have issues seeing the LCD.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
dragon2 2 #3 October 12, 2009 I have one, I hate it except for the fact that a) it was only 10 bucks and b) it's purple. However it goes through batteries fast, batteries that are impossible to get by the way, and it is hard to read from an angle etc, the contrast on them is quite bad, nowhere near as good as the pictures shown on the/this website. Also customer care from Parasport Italia is notoriously bad, in stark contrast to L&B and Alti2. If you want digital but nice big display I'd suggest the Altitrack. ciel bleu, Saskia
PhreeZone 20 #4 October 12, 2009 Actually it looks like PI decided to come out with a totally new product and call it an Altitron even though they had an older product named that before. I've only used the old round style and it sucked.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
dragon2 2 #5 October 12, 2009 This is the one I have, I see what you mean: on the PI website there is a totally different Altitron. Never seen that one before let alone 'in the flesh'. Their customer service still sucks majorly though ciel bleu, Saskia
glgflyer 0 #6 October 12, 2009 Yes, the new style is what I'm looking at. I wouldn't even consider the old one. As for the batteries, it uses standard AAA batteries (according to the info I read). So, if anyone has this NEW Altitron digital readout altimeter, I would love to hear the pros and cons of it.
Rstanley0312 1 #7 October 12, 2009 I have one.... I have put 10 jumps on it so its fairly new to me. So far I really like how big the display is and its menu is extensive. It is easy to read and I like it because I wear it underneath my wrist. It seems easier to me to look at it when freeflying and under canopy.... just something I like but the strap is secure without a fingerloop which I love. My last jump yesterday it was reading 200 ft. off down low but I am not sure if it is something that I did. Battery life on it is supposed to be 1.5-2 yrs and you never turn it off. It just kicks in to standby mode by itslef. All and all I am a fan. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask. RobLife is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it.
