happythoughts 0 #1 October 18, 2004 clicky The solution to the drug problem according to the sheriffs office? It's the trees. This doesn't explain inner-city crime in treeless areas, but you have to start somewhere. QuoteFORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Okaloosa County sheriff's deputies think they have found a solution for getting rid of drug dealers and prostitutes who congregate under a giant oak tree: chop it down. The sheriff's office is seeking permission to have the tree removed from a county right of way on Cypress Street. Apparently, some officials are questioning the involvement of the tree in criminal activities. Quote "Why not deal with the people underneath the tree rather than cut down the tree?" asked Christy Johnson, a senior county planner. Her department previously has denied requests to remove the oak because it was considered a beautification asset in a neighborhood covered by a neighborhood revitalization grant. It can be rather embarrassing to be a Florida resident when someone in Fl govt shows up in these types of newspaper articles. People call me and ask "Who the heck do you people put in charge around there?" I guess this does explain why smugglers are so successful. There is huge number of trees near the shoreline and some of the stupidest people in existence trying to catch them.
