Vallerina 2 #26 October 20, 2004 Quotesteal ( P ) Pronunciation Key (stl) v. stole, (stl) sto·len, (stln) steal·ing, steals v. tr. To take (the property of another) without right or permission. Umm...if you take money from an insurance company without the right to do so, that pretty much falls in the dictionary.com definition of the word. QuoteI'm sick of hyperbolic comparisons of acts in an attempt to sound like an authority on a subject matter, simply because the speaker feels strongly about something. Okay, you're right, I don't work in insurance. People think that they're taking money from the big bad insurance companies. They're not. They're taking money from other policyholders. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
champu 1 #27 October 20, 2004 I love dictionary.com, don't you? unfortunately it's supported by pop-up ads, which I don't care for, so I use software that blocks them... which is stealing Now do you see what I'm trying to say?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ... uhhhh... no. ... that doesn't fall into the 'stealing' definition anywhere that I can find.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
harryskydives 0 #29 October 20, 2004 I surf during commercials or mute the sound, I do not believe that to be stealing. But if you steal $5 from a child or $5000 from Bill Gates, it is still stealing. even though Bill Gates would not miss $5000. What is wrong is goverment that mandates workers comp. but does not include health insurance. That is where we get into the shift the burden from one to the other issues. You can smoke cigrarettes allday long and your health insurance has to pay to cut out your lung cancer. But just fracture a fibula skydiving... Hey peace brother. Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time...
champu 1 #30 October 20, 2004 QuoteHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! ... uhhhh... no. "stealing" has negative connotations beyond its dictionary.com definition (namely: violence, breaking and entering, destruction of property, etc) and it's my belief that the use of the term in situations like this is less than objective. As though we can't understand that what the person is doing is illegal without someone coming along and saying, "but what they're doing is no really no different from all that street crime you hear about on the news" /edited to add: Quotethat doesn't fall into the 'stealing' definition anywhere that I can find. I didn't check, but I figured I was violating the terms of service, and thus reading material on the site without their permission.

So what do you call shoplifiting? Downloading MP3s/movies? Cable/sat dish descramblers? None of those involve destruction or violence. Hell, you can steal someone's identity without leaving your house. EDIT: QuoteI didn't check, but I figured I was violating the terms of service, and thus reading material on the site without their permission. I doubt it. Are you stealing from Sangiro if you use his site and don't click on any ads? They're just displaying their ads in a new window to try to get your attention.it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

champu 1 #34 October 20, 2004 you're all right, stealing sucks regardless of scale. I'm being stubborn and argueing semantics... which is hollow. Sorry, about that. Have a good evening.
