DexterBase 1 #1 October 21, 2004 My girlfriend and I decided to get into adventure racing. I picked up a new mountain bike yesterday. Wow. I've been looking for a good excuse to get back into shape. This should be pretty cool, we have all winter to train for the spring races. I'm excited.
weegegirl 2 #2 October 21, 2004 Nice! What did you get??
 AggieDave 6 #3 October 21, 2004 That's awsome. What kind of bike?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
 DexterBase 1 #4 October 21, 2004 Well, we're buying lots of gear so I tried to keep my expense low on the bike but get something that will get me started. If I really like this stuff I can get a better bike for next season. I got a Specialized Hardrock Comp disc. I got it for $500. I know jack about bikes. Hmmm... Maybe I should have asked here first huh?
 weegegirl 2 #5 October 21, 2004 Nice. My first bike was a Specialized Hard Rock. They're nice. Enjoy!
 DexterBase 1 #6 October 21, 2004 It didn't fall apart on you did it? I like the one I got because it has disc brakes, front suspension, and it's red and black... with flames...
 weegegirl 2 #7 October 21, 2004 Nope. Wrecked it once. Hit a rock and bent it up pretty good. Then my bro got it stolen. Bastard. Fun bike. You'll dig it.
 DexterBase 1 #8 October 21, 2004 I wonder if there are any other adventure racers that post here. I'll start a separate thread. Edit: Other thread
 AggieDave 6 #9 October 21, 2004 Dude, that's a great bike. I used to be a hard-core MTB rider, I had a tricked out Specialized Rockhopper A1FS. Had XTR and a judy, it was well worth it, but then I started jumping and kinda quit riding hard...then that bike got stolen. Now I've been thinking about MTB again and really missing the fun I had, BUT I can't afford a good bike like that again right now (components and bike cost a total of around $1500-2000). Enjoy your adventure racing, I've always been kinda jealous of those guys since it looks like a hell of a lot of fun (really hard but really fun).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Now if I can just find a good price on a Prophet...!_________________
 Girlfalldown 0 #11 October 21, 2004 Dude that sounds so fun! My mountain bike got nabbed too last year so all I have is a cool retro 7 speed cruiser that I don't use enough. Have a great time tearin shit up! -------------- (Do not, I repeat DO NOT, take my posts seriously.) Would it have made sense to fork out the extra $$$ for a full suspension bike considering I'm doing adventure racing and not downhill or freeride? I'm not getting her this one. Hard tails have an advantage on climbing due to less energy loss, (some power absorbed by the rear shock) and weight. You can get full suspension with lockouts that will minimize this, but again, you are adding weight. (And cost!) I would see what the competition is using, and decide accordingly. I love my full suspension (especially the knees!) but I am strictly x-country doing technical single track._________________
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
