Evelyn 0 #1 October 21, 2004 How hard can it be? I was planning to pitch a tent for the Chicks Rock boogie, but now am thinking maybe the ground will be wet from the rain, maybe it will be cold. I have an RV, but I'm not sure if I can drive it. I actually drove it once, but since I'm used to driving my Vette I kind of took off too fast and took the corners too sharp. Things were flying around and my husband was having a fit. That was about 5 years ago, I haven't driven it since. But I'm thinking if I drive slowly maybe I'd be okay. So how hard is it to drive one of these things? It's not that big, only 23 feet. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing ~ Helen Keller
wingnut 0 #2 October 21, 2004 i can tell ya from two trips from her ein utah to perris and to arizona (both about 800 miles) it isn't that hard... youlready told us what you need to do to drive diffrently.... it's not hard but just takes some thinking.. youhave to turn wider, slower and you can't stop or start as fast as you normaly can even in a mini van....... other than thatthe diffrentce is only pretty big when you fill up atthe gas pump.... i will say as long as you have good shocks in the rv it is easy driving.... if the shocks suck you'll get sway from passing trucks and such... but if it isn'tthat long a drive no problem... only thing that ever gave me problems was when i had an electrical fire under the dash in vegas... but i got it fixed withthe helpof jtval and was backon the road in no time..well okay it was a while but it was some what extensive repairs to a wiring harness..... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
AggieDave 6 #3 October 21, 2004 Have you ever seen the Blue Collar Comedy Tour? Have you ever heard Bill Engval's joke about renting an RV? Before you rent the RV you should hear that routine!!--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Frenchy68 0 #4 October 21, 2004 It drives very easily. Just be carefull about turns if it's a long one and the front wheels are actually behind the driver's seat. Also, keep your height in mind. Nasty low branches in side streets have a tendency of opening up RVs like they're sardine cans! skyyhi 0 #5 October 21, 2004 Okay Evelyn, The ground won't be THAT bad. . .(well at least I hope not since I am still planning on pitching my big ass tent. . .better go get a bigger tarp. . .lol). Anyway, drive slower, pull out from the corners further, and ASK where to park the darn thing. . .there are some hookups there somewhere. . .I just don't know where for sure. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy

Yes I've seen it. It was hysterical!! Not renting though, we own one, I just don't usually drive it, but see no reason why I shouldn't. If I can just drive the darn thing I don't even need hook ups cuz the heater runs without being hooked up and I can run the generator if I want to use the microwave or TV. Just have to be able to drive it. I think I can if I just take it slow. And if I do bring the RV I will have sleeping places for a couple people so if I do bring it and you don't want to pitch your tent you'd be welcome to stay with me in the RV. Just gotta talk to my husband and see if he'll let me take it. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing ~ Helen Keller

Thanks for the offer sweetie. . .save me a space in case the ground is REAL wet. . .________________________________________ Take risks not to escape life… but to prevent life from escaping. ~ A bumper sticker at the DZ FGF #6 Darcy

PalletMan 0 #14 October 21, 2004 I have a 23ft RV myself. Like others said, slow down and take turns wide and slow. Give yourself plenty of time to get there and don't be in a rush. Give yourself plenty of braking distance. Make sure you realize how wide it is. Look in the mirrors while you're driving to see where the sides are. This should help keep you centered in the lane. Make sure you realize how tall it is. You shouldn't have to worry about overpasses that have the height signs for the big trucks, but keep it in mind if you see a particularly low overpass or what not. And be mindful of tree branches and stuff. Always back into parking spots. It's much easier than trying to back out of a spot. --ArtSky-div'ing (ski'div'ing) n. billvon 3,120 #16 October 21, 2004 We have a Roadtrek 190 and it's no problem at all to drive. Of course it's just an overgrown van, so we have it easy. As long as you keep it under 65 it drives like any other van. (Above 65 winds and road irregularities start having more of an effect.)
