Vallerina 2 #1 October 22, 2004 I love my nephews so much, but babysitting them makes my clock get pushed back quite a bit! I have so much respect for parents now. I watched my two nephews (3 yr old and a 1 yr old) last night for most of the night (my mom was running errands all evening.) The things I've noticed about kids and what it must be like to have them: -At about the time one is growing out of their bratty/crying/fit-throwing stage, the other one is starting it. -The "toy" that tops their list is always the most breakable/dangerous one. -Feeding them Twizzlers because they ask for it, and it makes them happy usually comes to bite me in the rear when they're running around and screaming 30 minutes later. -Touching something and saying, "mine," really does make it theirs. -At the age of 1 they learn how to play people off of one another -At the age of 1 they also learn how cute and irresistable they are with the pouty lip I don't know how my brother and sister-in-law do it.There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

chaoskitty 0 #3 October 22, 2004 Quote I don't know how my brother and sister-in-law do it. Its different for them, because they do it every day. Its like someone who works out once every two or three months saying that about someone who works out every day.. its just part of what you do.

McDuck 0 #6 October 22, 2004 That's the best part about visiting and babysitting: you get to see what it's like to deal with kids, amp them up on sugar and caffeine, and then you get to leave. Oh, and be sure to buy the loudest noise-making toys for kids of friends and relatives you want to get back at ONLY if you know you can safely and swiftly disarm those toys when the kids are dropped in your lap for a future visit. Icon134 0 #8 October 22, 2004 I'm afraid to have kids (not a huge problem right now anyway...) for fear of my parents doing precicely what McDuck says just to prove a point (i.e. I torcherd them... turn about is fair play...) I do on occation like playing with kids though... sunday when one of the DZ coaches son was about. he had a lightsabre toy and we were sword fighting... well after a while of that he got tired of doing that and instead took the makeshift sword I was using (a piece of PVC tubing about 2 ft long...) and started tossing it at one of the wind direction flags that lasted for a good 15 minutes of quality entertainment for him. (I really miss being a kid... wait a minute... I am a kid... well deep down I am...) Scott
complexity 0 #9 October 22, 2004 But don't they (the ubiquitous they) say that its different when you have your own kids? And that in spite of currently other children driving you up the wall/getting tired of taking care of them, you will totally change your outlook once you have your own? I love most children and thing their antics are so adorable for the most part, but I have to agree that when I am with them for too long (and they get bratty/cry), I just want to put them on a shelf/drawer and put them away for awhile. Guess you can't do that to children though Guess thats why I have a dog and a cat right now. They are cool.
dixieskydiver 0 #10 October 22, 2004 Awwwww...Johnny Utah had his kid ( 1ish I think) up at Bridge day... he was so sweet. Of course that didn't have anything to do with the fact that he liked me more than Alanab... Dixie HISPA #56 Facil Rodriguez "Scientific research has shown that 60% of the time, it works every time." skydived19006 4 #13 October 22, 2004 My two are 9 months and 2.5 years, so I can relate. It’s really fun watching them learn to speak, and how they can turn things around. Kent (2.5 yo) has taken “you’re not supposed to have that”, to his version “supposed to have it”. And at the DZ when the “Beer Light” comes on, Kent is always more than happy to be the beer server!Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else. antifnsocial 0 #17 October 23, 2004 I love my brother's kids but you're so right. When they were tiny babies it physically hurt to hold them & cuddle them it was so bittersweet. That biological urge is so strong it can't be described, & it is too real. However, 3 hours alone w/ them now that they're 2 and 3 yrs. old & I'm screaming for my mommie too. The single life is good. Protected sex, even better. Biological clock, well it just shuts off for awhile.I like getting my baby fix then giving them back & walking away!! I got a puppy instead. Please feel free to reply to my posts and pm's, but only if you're smart enough to understand what they really mean.
