mtbriles 0 #1 September 25, 2009 What happens if you take an altimeter above what the manufacturer said it could go? Will it stop registering till you get back down below that altitude or will it be fucked up?Why not? My direction in life is up...then down again REALLY REALLY FAST!!! Never take life too seriously. iwo 0 #3 September 25, 2009 They guaranty some altitude, but they go much more. I would say they loose accuracy, but definitely they don't die
pilotdave 0 #4 September 25, 2009 QuoteThey guaranty some altitude, but they go much more. Not in my experience. I've done a few jumps from ~21,000 and found that most people's altimeters stop at about 18,000 (as advertised). My previous altimeter stopped at 17,000. IanHarrop 42 #5 September 25, 2009 See this from Alti-2 http://forum.altimaster.com/showthread.php?t=479 What happens to my Galaxy above 17,000' When you take you Galaxy above approximately 17,000' MSL the pointer will stop moving, you have reached the limited of the travel of the mechanism. If you go higher you will NOT damage the mechanism, when you descend through 17,000 the pointer will start to move again. It doesn't matter how much higher than 17,000 you go, or how long you stay there, the Galaxy will not be damaged. Please note that the limit of travel is approximately 17,000 MSL, if your DZ is at 5,000 MSL the you you will reach the limit of travel at about 12,000 AGL"Where troubles melt like lemon drops, away above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me" Dorothy
councilman24 37 #6 September 26, 2009 Depends some on the type and model. Most won't die. (Don't know any will for sure) Most will start working again. virgin-burner 1 #10 September 28, 2009 isnt there nice people all around!? making a buck or two off a fellow skydiver and sell him some bullshit.. ask viplo about that, IIRC, they do service and fix it; its pretty expensive tough.. and they might even replace the dial in the process! “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Nice thing is the lady is accepting a full refund and even offered to replace it with a slightly used galaxyi respectfully declined and will be purchasing a new altimeter instead of used. Why not?
