I guess 80 proof isn't too bad...

Recommended Posts

I'm still pretty pissed about the change from 86 proof to 80 proof, but I still love the taste of drinking Jack Daniels.

There is a distinct difference in taste in the whiskey due to the lower proof, but its still the best whiskey on the market. Better then Maker's Mark, a hell of a lot better then Jim Bean and better then all the "fancy whiskey" that I've had.

Then again, I'm probably one of the few whiskey drinkers posting at 1820 tonight.:P

It took quite a few more Jacks to get me going at the wedding a couple weeks ago. Luckily it was an open bar:)
Personally, I like the taste of Makers and Beam over JD. Also, give me a Jameson's anyday!!

Remeber, it's just there way getting more of your $$$. Reduce alcohol content by 7%, cause consumer to buy more.

I seriously doubt that Jack Daniels made this change without a whole bunch of consumer surveys. My thought is that the research determined that their studies found people prefer the taste of 80 proof more than the 86 proof.

Of course, all the surveys found that people liked New Coke a helluva lot more than Coca Cola. An example where the surveys didn't do a damned bit of good...

They've reduced the alcohol? Ah well, I'll just have to drink something else instead...

Oh, and if you like JD, try and find yourself a bottle of Bullet Bourbon. Smoother than Jack without being as tooth-clenchingly sweet as Jim Beam or Maker's Mark. Highly recommended.

edit: edited for spelling.

Bah!

If you can tell the difference in proof across the same brand by taste, you're either dreaming, or in the wrong profession, Dave.

In fact, I'm willing to bet if I had two glasses in front of you, one of each, straight, you couldn't tell the difference.

Of course, that would involve being in front of you with whiskey, which could be a very dangerous thing.... Sunny likes shiney, Dave likes whiskey.

"Woo hooo, Dave....."
Dangling Monster-sized bottle of Jack juuuust out of reach, yet close enough to read that it says "86 Proof". >:(

No, it's regular old black Jack... the only thing special about it is that we paid an outrageously high price for it at Club Rain in Vegas, but it's still just regular black Jack. (Hmm, maybe Rain was selling expensive less-alcoholic Jack??? :(... Like I needed any more alcohol than I had that night - I'm probably banned from that club now.)

The real question is, why do you still have a bottle of Jack from 2 years ago? Shouldn't that have been finished, oh... say 1 year and 51 weeks ago?:)

It's an empty bottle, of course. ;)

I only kept it because it was a special occasion... though empty liquor bottles do make nice vases for my flowers. :)
