sabr190 0 #1 October 27, 2004 You are sitting in Purgatory, there are two doors, one leads to heaven and one leads to hell, there are two sisters sitting between the doors, they both know which door leads where, but one can only tell the truth and one can only tell lies. You are allowed to ask one question to only one sister. What would the question be??? Been racking my brain for an hour trying to figure this out "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa

shropshire 0 #5 October 27, 2004 Ask either of them - what answer would the other one give... If you ask the one who always tells the truther she will tell you that other one would tell you one door which would be a lie (she always lies). - so you choice the other door. If you ask the one who always lies she will say that the other would tell you one door, but as she always lies she would lie about the other girls answer so choice the other door. QED (.)Y(.) BeattheDrums 0 #6 October 27, 2004 Okay I think this will work... Ask "If I asked the other sister where this door lead (pointing to the door that the one your talking to is standing in front of) Where would she say it lead?" however that door is identified then its the opposite... I.E. Heaven=Hell and visa versa. Anyway it made sence in my mind so take it for what its worth... QED The problem there is you don't know which nun is which. If you did know that, then just ask the one that tells the truth. I'v seen this before, and the answer doesn't lie in asking which door, it lies in asking one nun about the other one.. but I forget exactly. Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! gremlin 0 #11 October 27, 2004 The question you stated was wrong. You said that you were only allowed to ask one question to one sister - but you have to ask each sister one question to get the answer. Have just spent 10 mins trying to come up with a solution and now my brain hurts! I'm drunk, you're drunk, lets go back to mine....
Rebecca 0 #12 October 27, 2004 Gremlin, it doesn't matter which sister you ask. If you ask either of them, "Which door would your sister say leads to Heaven?", the liar will tell you that her sister would tell you Door A, the door to hell, because she's lying, so you take B. Same thing with the honest one. She will tell you truthfully that her sister would say Door A leads to heaven, which is a lie, so you take B. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? happythoughts 0 #14 October 27, 2004 QuoteYou are sitting in Purgatory, there are two doors, one leads to heaven and one leads to hell, there are two sisters sitting between the doors You are in a room with 2 sisters. Things are ok so far. Why not stay for a while? The door question won't be important until you leave. If one sister is GFD, ask the other, she won't mind watching. Quote but one can only tell the truth and one can only tell lies. They will both lie to you. Where did you get the idea that only one will? Quote You are allowed to ask one question to only one sister. What would the question be??? "How U Doin'?"
happythoughts 0 #15 October 27, 2004 This is an old one. I won't claim to have figured it out. I remembered it a while back as: "A guy comes to a fork in the trail. One road goes to a village that always lies, one to a village of truth-tellers. There is a person sitting there. The traveller doesn't know which village that the man comes from." You only need one question of one person. "What would the guy from the other village say?" And then do the opposite of whatever you are told.
