Judging by the responses, i'd say no one else got this Good for you dave, i just recently got back into the gym myself. I am going to do about a month of nothing but cardio ( I swim) then get back on weights twice a week. Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you. Paige 0 #29 October 21, 2004 QuoteI'm with you, Dave! Since I broke my leg, I wasn't able to get up and move around much so I put on a little bit of weight. Now that I can walk again, it's coming off, but really slowly. I won't be doing any hardcore weight-lifting, but I'll be damned if I let this weight stay on me. I'm right there with you. Put on some weight with the broken hip and now its slowly coming off. Slappie 9 #30 October 21, 2004 I'm turning 38 next year and midlife is slapping me in the face fast. I'm a 20 year smoker and have always been thin (150-160lbs thin) never worked out in my life cept for highschool and college sports. Normally stayed pretty active. Last year or so I've gotten really lazy. I've noticed this huge layer of fat growing around my waist. So I've been thinking very very seriously about starting some type of workout program or going to a gym. Also going to be attempting to quit smoking in the coming months. Just have to get my motivation back from those aliens!! Anyways.. I'm with ya Dave. I want to try and at least get to looking and feeling better "Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them." Icon134 0 #33 October 21, 2004 Forget the swimming and running thing... the workout you need to do to workout the whole body is rowing... mmmmmm.... rowing... up @ 0500 walk out on a frozen dock to pull an oar in 50 degree water... best of all its still relatively low impact. Yes, I'm crazy... edited to add: good job dave! don't hurt yourself over-training but don't cheat yourself either. Scott AFF level 7 prejump briefing: "Have fun, be safe, and don't get killed." After I threw my back out, I laid around for a year and gained 20 pounds of .... er .... buoyancy. Then I read a book ("The Complete Book of Swimming by Dr. Phillip WHitten< ISBN 0-679-74667-6) about competitive swimming and taught myself how to swim. For the first time in my life I was able to float on my back while keeping my nostrils above water! Swimming 2 or 3 times a week helped me lose 10 pounds of "buoyancy" and vastly improved my morale.
 AggieDave 6 #41 October 28, 2004 Thanks to everyone, I'm not going to suck it up and run it out. November is my start back month, I got cleared by the doc to lift weights this week, says I've recovered enough from surgery I shouldn't do any damage and the only thing I could do is if I get hit is pop open the scar/wound where I was cut into. I'm waiting till next week since there is still a little pain from the surgery, the doc said that's normal, and as long as the pain didn't bother me, lifting weights wouldn't hurt it. So my first small stepping stone is Christmas. I'm meeting a lot more of my fiancee's family Christmas since we're going to her family for that holiday (and my family for thanksgiving), so I figure 2 months is enough time to drop atleast 10 lbs and get a large amount of the bulk back that's been slipping away. Once you START working out, you have to keep at it or a 20lbs loss will be a 19lbs loss in a few weeks. I just don't understand that kind of drive and determination. On a different note, if the rumors I've started are true, I'm in training for a half marathon in February, so I'm running my Beefy ass off. I usually run the six miles in about an hour, but I'm done for the rest of the day after that. The half marathon we're running in is going to be in Myrtle Beach, SC. We have a tentative plan to stay two nights down there, one before and one after, and get a hotel room that might be conducive to getting a B with my mentor.
