flyingferret 0 #28 May 18, 2001 Okay, here goes my .02. I have not seen the ad in question so I am speaking from a rather uneducated standpoint. But I have picked up a few things from the discussion. A) Sis, you have issues with hot dogs. Don't get me wrong some are pretty nasty. But an ice cold beer and a jumbo Ballpark or National Hebrew beef frank are awesome at the end of a DZ day. Plus..skydiving..college? I can't afford steak :) B) Is the girl that 'skanky'? I mean that can be a subjective term. C) And finally, from my business courses I would say that this ad has achieved at least one of the major purposes of advertising which is attention and lots of it. It seems everyone who has seen it remembers it and the company name. Advertising is mostly about name recognition. If anyone has the ad in digital format, I would kinda like to see what the fuss is about. Having input my 2 cents, at least for this skydiver I think the erotic pun with hotdogs is rather obvious.Malachi
RevJim 0 #29 November 7, 2004 ~Sigh~ In digging up a retro weekend post, I realized just how much I miss the days when our sport related periodicals didn't feel the need to be so damn politically correct. ~Sigh~ I want those days back. flyangel2 2 #30 November 7, 2004 Oh Jim, you could have dug up a better one then this. Just when I think I have the picture of that ad out of my mind, you had to remind meMay your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey
RevJim 0 #31 November 7, 2004 Oh, Mar, it's not just that particular image, it's all of them in general. Political correctness has a foothold in skydiving. It was just a matter of time, I guess. It's good to see some bucking the trend though. It's too bad I'll never get a good non-pc number.... Long Live the Joe Blow Numbers! It's your life, live it! ChileRelleno 0 #33 November 7, 2004 I'm with ya Rev, I distinctly remember that ad and others which always brought a smile to my lecherous mind. I always wondered just how much she loved those hotdogs. By the way, howdy and hows it hangin? kinney29 0 #34 November 7, 2004 What about when the ranch did an ad with a guy in a bath tub full of hot dogs. Now that was pretty digusting.
Brian425 0 #35 November 7, 2004 Both ads were done by the same guy. Sonic has both of them up on the seiling of the Pro Shop. My understanding is that it was the guy who owned the Pro Shop before Sonic. The guy is the photographer and the girl was his girlfriend. I have no problem with them. The only time you should look down on someone is when you are offering them your hand.
RevJim 0 #36 November 8, 2004 QuoteI'm with ya Rev, I distinctly remember that ad and others which always brought a smile to my lecherous mind. I always wondered just how much she loved those hotdogs. I hadn't eaten a hot dog in years, until that ad. For months afterward I just couldn't seem to eat enough. QuoteBy the way, howdy and hows it hangin? Good to hear from you too, bud. Hanging? A bit bigger than one of those hot dogs, but damn near as cold (fockin Wisconsin weather...)It's your life, live it! Shotgun 1 #37 November 8, 2004 I thought that ad was funny... But they could have cleaned the bathtub a little better before taking pictures... I wonder if they had a weenie roast afterwards and served all those hotdogs to their unsuspecting friends???
