There is nothing random about an act of kindness.

Recommended Posts

Kindness is a purposeful thing. A loving thing. A caring thing.

An act of kindness.

An act of kindness.

Think of one. And tell us about it.

For me? Most often it is an expression of genuine caring. A moment of eye contact and a hug.

I suggest all the readers of this think about their individual moments of eye contact and subsequent hugs.

Especially think about how many people care about you, about your situation, and express that concern with a glance.

What you do is more important than what you think, but the eyes are the windows to the soul.

So look.

And do.

Something.

:)

Yesterday, at school, while walking down the freshly painted entrance/exit ramp I slipped a bit and grabbed the railing to keep myself from falling - and in the process dropped my books off the side of the ramp, about a half a story down to the ground. :S

There's this kid in my programming design and analysis class that is really annoying. Constantly says something to make himself look good when the teacher says something... to the point where he is always by himself when we get into groups. Well, he was in front of me on the ramp and noticed my books 'flight', and went under the ramp to gather my books for me.

He handed them back to me with a genuine smile and asked if I was ok. I thanked him but not really as much as I should have [:/] It was really nice of him to go out of his 'walking path' and climb under the ramp to get my books.

When you say there is nothing random about random acts of kindness, all I can do is agree with you, and provide two screen names as examples.

One is probably the most kind, caring individual I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and the other is the exact same, except for the fact that I'm still waiting to meet her.

The perfect thread for the day that I have had.

I found out today that my mom has cancer so tomorrow I'm heading to North Carolina to be with her. When I found out I was at work so I went to the bathroom to have a minor breakdown. While I was in there this motherly older lady came in and found me. She didn't ask any questions, she just opened up her arms and enveloped me into them. When I stopped crying she simply turned around and left...no questions or anything.

I do not know her and I doubt I will ever have the chance to thank her. I do not think she will ever know how much that hug meant to me.

I do know that it wasn't a random act of kindness...it was more than that.

Well then, lucky me! I have had the pleasure of spending much quality time with both of them, and agree with you completely!

The list goes on and on, but I'm really looking forward to the Holiday Boogie to spend time with them, and Betsy, and the BillDammit's and the Krusi's, and, and, and.... lots of people in skydiving who have gone out of their way to be kind to me.

Even Mathias, who introduced me to his parents as "an old guy who is a new skydiver".

You and JP think I'm kind just cause I've never kicked you in the balls and then spit on you when you were down there screaming in pain.

I'm sure there are a number of people that will PM you and JP and tell you what a bitch I really am:ph34r:

JP, keep your fingers crossed that the weather in Eloy for the Christmas boogie is warmer then last year, or else you won't see me:(

OK, since it has just been that kind a day I'm sitting here crying.

Flyangel sits down next to Mouth and gives her a big hug.

There, there Lisa. It will be okay. You just get your cute little ass to CSS for Thanksgiving, and we'll be doing the party thing and DD everyone in our cell phones to let them know we are having a great time.

Flyangel passes Mouth a tissue.

Immediately I thought of Mar (flyangel2) and then scroll down the thread and to my surprise (or not) she's already been mentioned here a couple times. But I'll tell mine anyway ;)

When I finally got to meet her at AOT, we figured out we'd all be in Colorado at the Royal Gorge. Right away she offered us her tent, blankets, sleeping bags, and whatever we needed to camp out for a couple days so we could save on hotel expenses. I'll tell you that woman was on it! She had an entire tub full of everything we needed to stay warm and comfortable for the trip. Even a rad little Coleman lantern that converted into a flashlight. The only thing she forgot was the port-a-potty.

I was just so amazed how someone I just met would go so far out of her way to make sure we were set. Thanks Mar, you are so much fun to hang out with. Thanks for your act of kindness. Party on! B|

I'm a few months out of a long-term relationship and am having to start over like an 18-year old in the "stuff" department. I moved into a house a couple weeks ago and have been shopping like crazy furnishing it, but it's kinda crazy how much stuff we use without really thinking about it. Every trip to the grocery store costs twice as much as it should when you realize you don't have everything you need (e.g. a colander or cheese grater for the mac & cheese I was planning).

Last night I got home from work and there was a new microwave sitting on my porch. I can now cook meals big enough to save leftovers. :)
Thanks Kevin (G5fh84 on dz.com). I appreciate it.

Thanks for the sweet hugs Mar. You are truely one of life greatest gifts. Thanks for the PMs too, JP. I'll fill you in when you get back. Yes, today was just one of those days and for some crazy reason I've been on the verge of tears all day long, and if you know me to get me to that point something must have happened because I simply do not cry in front of anyone EVER (except when Michelle died).

Then you guys start talking about me all sweet and I just can't help myself...a single tear rolled down my cheek when I first read this and I've just been fighting it the rest of the day.

WHATEVER!

The only ones you are that way with are the ones that WHOLEHEARTEDLY deserve it - and even most of those you let go by.

Lisa - We'll talk again soon.

I'm going back to the shadows again now - :)

Thanks for the HUGS, Turtle. I do appreciate them. I'm sorry I couldn't be of any more help to you or Conway last night. Know you are in my thoughts...keep doing what you are doing and things will work out. That I can promise...maybe not like you want them to but they will work out.

we will not do anything of the sort!

We may however spray an innocent passer by (of the male variety) or make rude gestures, so that we can turn Mouth's tears into the nicer "side shaking-rolling down the face with uncontrollable laughter" kind..

You know the ones Deucey ;) Keep your phone on over Thanksgiving, wont you dear?:)
