How much should I pay my rigger?

Recommended Posts

I'm having a used container inspected by my rigger. I pretty much just called him up and asked him if he would take a look at this container that I'm interested in buying.

I think that it is understood that I plan on having him inspect any other gear that I'll be buying and he will definitely be packing my reserve.

Is there a set price for inspecting used gear or is this something you tip for?

If it's a tip, I don't want to insult the guy, so what is standard?

Thanks!

You pay his bill, like any other professional. You should have asked what it was going to cost ahead of time.

He MAY be willing to do it a low or no cost to aquire a new customer. If it's just inspect it I'll charge. If it's inspect it with the understanding that I'll be putting it together and doing the inspection and repack sometimes I won't charge for the initial purchase inspection.

But, since you didn't ask, you pay his/her bill like any other.

Tipping above that for exception and above the board service isn't bad. Like expidited service without an extra fee on the bill. But usually not expected.
