Favorite Flavor Of Pain Killer?

Recommended Posts

So, after surgery on Monday, here are my observations, what is your experience?

Percocet
One kick ass pain killer! After vicodin failed to keep up with the pain curve on the day following, this stuff really did the trick. Definite drowsiness, but not as much of the drugged up fog I experienced with vicodin.

Vicodin
Fair to good pain relief, but I found it could not keep up with the pain the day after the surgery and all local anesthesia had worn off. Much more of a "high" than percocet, perhaps not as good at pain relief, but you may not care as much!

I told them that vicodin didn't even touch any pain so they gave me a percoset and morphine combo that did the trick (for about 45minutes the day after surgery). Nothing helped my pain the day after except the morphine:(

Now though, the perc's do a nice job on the physical threapy pain. Gotta get a refill :S

I had shoulder surgery two weeks ago, and I was on oxycontin for a week. It killed the pain really, really well, but it also made me super dizzy and nauseated. I was also given norco (similar to vicodin: 10mg hydrocodone/325 mg acetaminophen) for "breakthrough pain." Taking norco on top of oxy made the dizziness and nausea 10 times worse! Now I'm just on naproxen twice a day, and I sparingly take norco for breakthrough pain because it still makes me dizzy and pukey. :(

vicodine is a waste of time for me. I think that I hard-wired my system back in the '80s:S When I was dancing with kidney stones they gave me what I think was called mepergan, or as I called them, my little red buddies-knocked me cold long enough for the stones to stop moving. Be warned, mixing with alcohol and a Harley Davidson WILL result in permanent scars.

I know there have been lawsuits because of illicit use/abuse of oxy, but I don't think it has actually been outlawed anywhere. It's definitely a controlled substance, and doctors need a DEA registration number to prescribe it.

Well, as I am currently one footed, come and get it!;)

I'll be driving up that way after work anyway and I got this terrible...um..er....hangnail. Yeah that's it!
I could really use some of that percocet to ease this horrific pain! :P

In all seriousness, how did surgery go? How long you out for?

Ummm, percocet and vicodin both have hydrocodone in them. One is just mixed with acetaminophen and the other ibuprofren. Unless you have wildly different result between tylenol and advil, then you were either taking different doses or it's just perception.

Percocet has Oxycodone and acetaminophen in it. Vicodin is Hydrocodone and acetaminophen.
Try again.

Demerol. Had it once over 10 years ago and I still say... Wow.

The big fat Vicodins (100 mg? 1000mg?) are good. The smaller dosages don't do jack for the pain but make me not care.

Percosets rock but I get wierd dreams on them.

Darvocets... only if there's nothing else left, then it's take two and wash em down with a couple beers.;)

Interesting. Percocet (7.5 325 Mg) put me to sleep most of the day (a real blessing for the boredom factor...). I was also given ambien to help me sleep if necessary, but so far I have not had to resort to that!

Dilaudid! need I say more!

Dude! I had a dilaudin drip after spine surgery. I could click that thing every 6 minutes. It was niiiiiiiiiiiice.

I woke up in the middle of the night once after not clicking for a while and was in agony so I buzzed the nurses and they came in and gave me a tripple shot. It was about that time that I became part of the tv show that was on. I just sort of melted into the tv. I remember the characters talking to me and me responding to them like I was actually part of the show. Weird.
