Big Bear

Recommended Posts

The following (first two) pictures are of a guy who works for the US Forest Service in Alaska and his trophy bear. He was out deer hunting last week when a large grizzly bear charged him from about 50
yards away.

The guy unloaded his 7mm Mag Semi-automatic rifle into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The big bear was still alive so he reloaded and shot it several times in the head. The bear was just
over one thousand six hundred rounds. It stood 12' 6" high at the shoulder, 14' to the top of his head. It's the largest grizzly bear ever recorded in the world. Of course, the Alaska Fish and Wildlife
Commission did him keep it as a trophy, but the bear will be stuffed and mounted, and placed on display at the Anchorage airport (to remind tourist's
of the risks involved when in the wild). Based on the contents of the bears stomach, the Fish and Wildlife Commission established the bear had killed at least
two humans in the past 72 hours. His last meal was the unlucky nature buff in the third picture.

The US Forest Service, backtracking from where the bear had originated, found the hiker's 38-caliber pistol emptied. Not far from the pistol was the remains of the hiker. The other body has not been found.

Although the hiker fired six shots and managed to hit the grizzly with four shots (they ultimately found four 38 caliber slugs along with twelve 7mm slugs inside the bear's dead body) it only wounded the bear and probably angered it.

The bear killed the hiker an estimated two days prior to the bear's own death by the gun of the Forest Service worker.

Think about this - If you are an average size man; You would be level with the bear's belly button when he stood upright, the bear would look you in the eye when it walked on all fours! To give additional
perspective, consider that this particular bear, standing on its hind legs, could walk up to an average single story house and look over the roof,or walk up to a two story house and look in the bedroom windows.

Very Big Bad Bear.

Of course the real men In SC with their CWP and big bullets would have made the BBB look like the guy in the pic. Ugh I hope the guy died quickly from a heart attack or something.

We've got a nice little brown bear for a neighbor thaat we usually don't see. He just mess with the bird feeders.

Time for sleepy and sweet dreams of a Big bad bear
Thanks for the pics

It is a shame that this happened. I'm not happy that 2 humans were killed by this bear but I think it is huge waste to kill such an amazing animal.

I know it was self defense but the man who shot the bear was himself a deer hunter.

Seems like a contradiction, we can kill them but they can't kill us, even if we invade their habitat.

Love to see you say that if one of these were charging at you.
So what you are about to be eaten by a bear but instead of doing something about it, Kbone will just sit there and let it happen.

You sure about that. there is no contridiction there at all. A bear does not let us kill it and we do not let a bear kill us.
would you rather that we cant kill them and they cant kill us? get off it.
beautiful creature by the sounds of it but i aint going to stand there and let it eat me.

Humanhas always killed anmails.

Problem whith beeas are that Humans "teach" them to go in out trash.. then if some one surpice it it might get affraid and kill a human,it then might eate a peice of the human and might like the taste...

I do agree that we dont can have ANY bears like the above that gets the taste for human flesh,it will hunt down people untill it dies.. it is its nature, not to blame it..

dont forget that theres a Foodchain in the nature,at this point Human is on top of it,we have the best brain and we kill what we like, even as we dont eat it...

Only thing you can do is to regulate when theres too many of one speice or if they become a treat to human(genneral nature law).

I do agree that a bear is a great animal, and it has my deepest respect, actualy i once wanted to go bearhunt,im not sure i wanted to shoot it but i sure wanted to have a closer look.

Rember a real hunter wont just shoot for fun..If a hunter kills a animalhe/she should give it the last respect to eat it.In nature anmails dies for 2 reassons for food or too old.. simple..

ps think i would have dumped in my pants if a saw that bear live:o

Stay safe

I've seen these pics before. They are definitely older than one week. In fact, if I recall the story correctly, this bear was killed in a regular hunt and to my knowledge didn't kill anyone.

Impressive pics either way.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

As stated above, the bear was killed a couple - three years ago....

The people got killed, last year I think? It was on the Kenai peninsula, if I recall correctly. They guy was a naturalist that had been studying bears for several years and figured that he could live with them. He figured wrong, and both he and his girlfriend were killed/eaten.

I disagree. Hunting bans have increased the bear population to the point where their natural habitat can no longer support them, and they come to the garbage dumps to feed. Sometimes that takes a tragic turn, as when a human surprises them or they break into a house to try and find food. In the bear's eyes, we are lower on the food chain than they are.

In recent years, they have tried tranquilizing the bears and transporting them to wilderness areas and releasing them. Hopefully it will work.

Opinion: "Trashing" bears should be tagged, and if they are caught in a city dump or the like again, they should be put down. Safer for the bear population at large, as they aren't being "taught" by the other bears that this is a good place for meals, and obviously safer for the people living in the area.
