AggieDave 6 #1 November 11, 2004 I'm interested in getting started with the IDPA and have already sent some e-mails to folks who were listed on a couple of websites as Texas contacts, but I was wondering if anyone here was involved with the IDPA or possibly took part in competitions or anything like that. Anyone?Eitherway, it looks like a lot of fun and something that would really teach some new skills as well as hone the hard earned skills I have already.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." mnealtx 0 #2 November 11, 2004 I've looked into it, but being overseas, I haven't gotten that serious about it. There's an IDPA forum at www.pistolsmith.comMike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706

PhillyKev 0 #4 November 11, 2004 Have you gone to any GSSF shoots?
AggieDave 6 #5 November 11, 2004 Nope, I hadn't gone to any of their shoots, but was thinking about it. I was really looking for events that I could shoot my Kimber as well as my Glocks. Basically I'm all sorts of motivated to be shooting all the time again, a couple of years ago I was shooting a couple hundred rounds a week (atleast) and lately its been a couple hundred rounds a month, which I find unacceptable! I also wanted to find something that would give me an outlet to keep my shooting awarness skills honed, since they're good to have and I spent a lot of money getting training for tactical defense shooting.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." councilman24 37 #6 November 11, 2004 I've wanted to get into IDPA but haven't had time and the closest is an 1 1/2 hours. I have done some GSSF. My first ever competition of any kind, first time I saw the real targets, first time I shot against a buzzer and was 37 out of 150. But too good! In amature civilian the winner wins a glock, the top of the middle third wins a glock, and the top of the bottom third wins a glock. But the courses of fire are all the same. It's all from a low ready position. There are no timed reloads. So it's was a low key way to start. And there IS a GSSF shoot in Jacksonville the weekend of the symposium! Last time it was the weekend before the PIA meeting and I went down early. This time I'll probably be too busy to shoot.I'm old for my age. JohnRich 4 #8 November 12, 2004 QuoteI'm interested in getting started with the IDPA... I dabbled in it a bit for a while, but had too many other hobbies already to get serious or regular with it. The IPSC shooting is too customized for my taste. Special guns, special handgun loads, special sights, yada yada yada. I prefer IDPA because it allows you compete with a stock gun, factory ammo, plain and simple. It's not a contest to see who can spend the most money on equipment. And it's a hell of a lot of fun. Moving targets. Multiple targets. Scenarios with good guys and bad guys, in endless variety. Some thinking is required to determine how to handle the shooting scenario in order to take out the bad guys most effectively, with tactically determined magazine changes, etc. You'll like it. AggieDave 6 #9 November 15, 2004 I did my first meet on Sunday with an IDPA club in Conroe. Well, it wasn't an actual comp, it was a practice comp, basically the same thing really, just the scores weren't recorded and less people were there. Talk about a fun time! Although next time I think I'm going to shoot my glock instead of my kimber, only due to the cost of ammo in 9mm compared to .45ACP. We did 5 scenerios shooting them twice apiece. Movement while firing, two shots to the 10 ring per target, a "hostage" target you loose points on if you hit, shooting from behind a "barricade" and such. Obviously, since this was my first time, so I was learning, but I still did pretty well. A couple more practice meets and I could be reasonably competitive. I think if I continue shooting IDPA stuff, I'm going to have to get into reloading to afford it.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Carter 0 #10 November 15, 2004 Shooting was my life before I got into skydiving a year ago, and it is great to meet so many skydivers that shoot. I competed in NCAA collegiate rifle, high power service rifle, and ipsc/idpa. IDPA is fun, but the club I shot with would tend to get a little stupid with the stages. It would start with "Ok, ten gang members are charging you house, one holding your wife hostage; hold on to this baby doll as you..." At that point I went to IPSC (limited ten or production class with a stock G 22) and found it to be more like CQB and a lot more fun. The race guns will kick your ass everytime, but you learn a lot. Woop, --John P.S. I highly recommend a Dillion for reloading.
AggieDave 6 #11 November 15, 2004 I was talking to one of the senior officers in the club that I shot with yesterday and they were talking about different scenerios they had at their "big meet" this summer. All the ones he was talking about is something I could see actually happening. Infact, a couple of the scenerios was from real occurances that happened to a couple of the club members. One was an attempted 5-man carjacking and robbery that happened at night...the 70 year old wife in the passenger seat shot and killed 3 of the perps as they were trying to pull her husband out of the car, shot a 4th but didn't kill him. The 5th drug the 4th off and left their 3 buddies' bodies there. They used that scenerio, in a passenger seat, run off the road, have to exit the car and shoot from concealment around the car.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
