wildblue 7 #27 November 15, 2004 Quotewith that 'ok' of accepting the fact that they would come, their outlook promised more success and happiness. I guess I don't really want to give too much of the movie away... so highlight to see: Spoiler stuff I'm not so sure it had to do with just accepting the fact that the bad times would come means they'd be happier. Even though they had a rough relationship once before, and it was probably doomed to fail, they decided to do it all again. They regretted erasing all the memories. So they went back into it, knowing full well that there was going to be bad times, and there was a really good chance that it would end badly, but they did it anyway. That whole "Is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all" -- I think most people have questioned that statement at least once in their lives. And some people have taken pretty drastic measures to 'make the pain go away'. I think it also says something of things being 'meant to be'... maybe more on that later. I guess I'll have to watch it again - I saw it when it was in theaters and haven't seen it again since. I was actually planning on buying it sometime this week, more then perhaps. End Spoiler stuffit's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
flyingferret 0 #28 November 15, 2004 I agree with your sentiments, I just wonder if that attitude does not affect the success somehow. Not saying it has to, but it might. Spoilers below (hope white works) It would seem that a lot of argument and turmoil are because you are not happy with the current environment. More specifically you feel under appreciated or threatened because of the environment. I think that would apply to their comments, the fucking, etc. In the did truly accept the coming downturns based on their personalities, then I would postulate that they would not fight the current situation, because in fact they foresaw it and saw past it even. Then if they choose not to fight it, the situation does not become cyclical and worsen. That might be total bunk, it is just the feeling I was left with. And it might no universally apply. Another interesting counterpoint is Mary and her decision not accept the changes, and inform everyone of the procedure. It is very possible that in other cases that proved more disasterous than our main characters. Unless of course, you globalize the feelings of Joel, Clementine and Mary, and suggest that even with no prior knowledge you would be drawn to the same soul. -- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
