Muenkel 0 #51 November 16, 2004 Holy Shit! I just got a call from my brother. His wife drives a late model VW Passat. This morning on the way to work, her seat heater actually caught fire! Fortunately she got out with just a slight burn. She was able to put the fire out with her coffee! My brother's response to her "Well, I always told you you had a smokin ass." _________________________________________ Chris
Mayberry 0 #52 November 16, 2004 Oh well, I was gonna give my 2 cents but after reading through all the posts it sounds like a few are on the right track & you are in good hands with Marks. One thing though, once repaired let us know what the problem was, ok? Being in the field myself I'm always curious about these things!! Thanks!! DonDon Here's to friends! Dammit Chris, I was on the phone for the last ten minutes listening to "press 1 for this, press 2 for that" & started laughing so hard I lost my place & have to start over!!! I think my wife might have a major problem with that!!! DonDon Here's to friends!
billvon 3,120 #55 November 16, 2004 There may be a short between a wire that becomes powered when the headlights are turned on (i.e. the wire from the light switch to the headlights) and the brake light wire. There are several places this can happen. Such problems are typically very hard to find but very easy to fix once you find out where it's happening. brothermuff65 0 #58 November 17, 2004 just a quick shot at it but i have run into i numerous times , check your rear light bulbs ,sometimes they will burn out and the filiment will short across and comeplete a circuit to the brake light side of the bulb ,and in so doing will send a current back down the brake light switch that will tell the system that the brakes are on and that cuts off the cruise control . i know that this sounds too simple to be true but i have run acrosss that very same on many occasions on my job as an auto mech over the years so it could just be the price of a bulb or on some ocassions it could be corrosion in the bulb socket . hope this will help muff mufftill later have fun & love each other seeya mb65johnny gates
Bolas 5 #59 November 17, 2004 Quote 1156. bulb into an 1157 bulb socket... From Mr. Mom: Ron Richardson: Yeah? Are you gonna make it all 220? Jack Butler: Yeah. 220... 221, whatever it takes. From Fletch: Willy: What the hell you need ball bearings for? Fletch: Awww, come on guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course. [leans arm on hot engine part] Fletch: Hey! It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads, and I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State. What we don't understand, we must ridicule... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh. DeNReN 0 #60 November 17, 2004 Wow....as always lots of mechanics on this forum kelel01 go see Marks.....a free looksee from a mechanic is always good and as he said he will prob be able to find the problem fairly easy. Diagnosing automotive problems online is not a easy thing to do...esp electrical problems...best to have a wiring diagram and the car in front of you for that...I will however concur that the problem is most likely a short from the park light to the brake light circuit....ie: wrong bulb(1156 instead of a 1157)...filament crossed over short...socket problem...on vehicles with the lights in the trunk/hatch a short where the wires flex...etc..etc.. Please let us know what turns out to be the problemOhhh...Zep...I hope you are being sarcastic in your praise of quad4 engines

kelel01 1 #62 November 17, 2004 He fixed it this morning, in about 3 minutes. Warning: extreme layman's terms (and vague ones at that) ahead when I tell you what was wrong. Someone had put my brake light in wrong, and it got so hot that it melted something in there, so . . . ah, fuck it. Mark knows what was wrong, but it's all good now. Now I just have to buy him drinks.
