councilman24 37 #2 September 2, 2009 I'm in a polictically incorrect mood today so...... To keep the pieces together when you chutes don't open.Real answers in no particular order, To provide proctection during landings, To provide additional controll during freefall manuvers, To change and make it easier to adjust your fall rate during freefall, To help prevent other clothing from interferring with operating you equipment at freefall speeds, To provide handles for others to grasp during freefall manuvers, To decrease drag during canopy manuvers, To keep all the parts together when you go splat (oh, I said that already) I'm old for my age. JohnRich 4 #3 September 2, 2009 The suits keep our bodies in one piece when he hit the ground at 120 mph, so that it can be recovered without having stuff splattered everywhere. You might also have noticed that there are handles on the arms and legs - that's to make it easier for the recovery team to lift your remains up from the hole in the ground and put them on a stretcher. It's just the polite thing to do, in case the worst happens. Sort of like how mom told you to always wear clean underwear, in case you happen to get seen somewhere unexpectedly.
