The condition is near mint. The only issue I had was the cork on the upper tendon needs to be shaved down a bit as it tends to stick. I have the price set at $1500 and it comes with everything I listed; the gig bag, 2 pro ligatures, the Gigliotti "P" mouthpiece, collapsable stand, bunches of reeds, reed case, cigarette papers, sandpaper and 3 study booklets and a copy of the weber grand duo concertant. Its a really great instrument - plays beautifully. Let me know if you are still interested, Jennifer >From: nicholas welsh >To: xxx@email.com >Subject: willing to buy your Buffet R-13 in MINT $1500 >Date: Wed, 17 Nov 2004 23:19:56 +0000 (GMT) > >Hi, > >I hereby wish to inform you that i am interested to purchase from you . > >What is your best offer ? > >Are you the real owner ? > >What is the condition ? > >Can i see the pics if is available ? > >Payment will be by bankers draft or cheque ,and when it clears your >bank. AggieDave 6 #2 November 18, 2004 Its a scam. The check will bounce and you'll be footing the bill. For years folks have been using scams like that on E-bay and the such. Turn his repsonses over to the authorities on E-bay if you were using e-bay, or what ever site you were on.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." mailin 0 #5 November 18, 2004 hmmm... I'm using a private woodwind list to list this. I want to send him another email specifying payment changes - what should I ask for? A bank check? He did mention in the first email that he will arrange pick up after payment is made.... This is confusing! The sale is a great deal, as I paid close to $2k for it - and am anxious to sell it. SBS 0 #6 November 18, 2004 If he sends Western Union, and she has cash in her hand before releasing the instrument, I don't understand what could go wrong. It's not like they can take the cash back. If it were me, and I didn't have any quick and dirty offers here in the states immediately available, I would proceed with caution. Just my opinion. AggieDave 6 #7 November 18, 2004 QuoteIf it were me, and I didn't have any quick and dirty offers here in the states immediately available, I would proceed with caution. That's the trick. You take it and cash it, get cash in hand before mailing the instrument away. Its just that so many people have used setups like this as a scam, everytime I see it I believe its a scam.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." mailin 0 #8 November 18, 2004 I agree that caution should be exercised. Whats the best form of payment for me to accept? Western Union doesn't seem to be the one of choice for folks here.... JenArianna Frances
AggieDave 6 #9 November 18, 2004 QuoteWhats the best form of payment for me to accept? Sex. Oh, ok, you wnat money...a money order works well, they too can be forged, though. A cashier's check from a bank works well, but they can be forged... If in country, I'd like to see a cashier's check from a nationwide bank, take to that bank and let them cash it BEFORE I mail the goods. I figure that's a resonable fail safe.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
SBS 0 #10 November 18, 2004 Like you said, the trick is getting cash in hand. More importantly, if this is a set up, the story will begin to change...do not allow the process to change. Do not accept things such as, "oh, well, it's going to take an extra day, would you mind sending it now, because I really need it." CASH in hand. Not a check, not a bank check (they can still be cancelled). CASH in hand. What about an international brokerage? There has to be a company out there that deals in this sort of thing, playing the intermediary for a fee. -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness... Remster 30 #12 November 18, 2004 Quotesound resonable.... Do they have national banks in the UK? Anyone know the name of a reputable bank in the UK that I should ask for payment from? Jen Get a cashiers check made on a US bank (most UK bank will have a US branch for international issues) in US dollar. Get that cashed at a US bank. There may be a fee for that (check with your bank if they will accept that; it works in canada, but here we have only a handfull of very large bank, as opposed to the US where there are a lot of small ones). Do not send anything untill you have the money in handRemster

SBS 0 #14 November 18, 2004 There are banks that are international, and there are banks that are local. Like here, we have BofA and Wells Fargo, etc., and we also have small town ones with just a couple of branches. I'm sure there's a brit or two on this site that could recommend a reputible bank. Regardless of which bank it is, though, I would take it and cash it before releasing anything. Did I mention CASH? Have I said the word CASH enough? Am I being repetative by saying the word CASH so much??? I thought of a bank transfer, but he could argue it after the fact and get the money pulled, etc., and just make your life miserable. -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness... indyz 1 #18 November 18, 2004 Nobody has posted a link to information about this well-known scam yet, so here and here. The check is a forgery. You cash the check at your bank, then do the wire transfer on the difference. A few days later the bank discovers the bogus check, reverses the transaction, and you are suddenly out of the money that you wired and possibly the clarinet. I'll bet you a jump ticket that if you make waiting for the check to clear your bank a condition of the sale, he backs out.
mailin 0 #19 November 18, 2004 As has been discussed in this thread.... Nothing leaves until I have 'cash' in hand... I'll only be accepting a bank check drawn on a US bank in US funds. Trust me, I'm not a fool. I know very well that this can/could be a scam, and will take every precaution necessary. JenArianna Frances
