Jealousy

Recommended Posts

I always found this to be the funniest of emotions. I find it funniest when people want something they already have or don't need.

I also never understood not being friends with someone out of jealousy. I'm not saying I've never gotten jealous of any of my friends, but I never understood not liking them because they're blessed in some way.

I never understood not wanting to be friends with someone because of the way they look. Ever since I was 10, my best friend has been the most gorgeous woman I've ever known. All the guys hit on her first. Yes. All. While it would get to me at times, I never once wanted to be mean to her or not be friends with her for it. She's hot. It's not her fault. She's also an extremely brilliant woman who is so much fun to hang around. Why would I miss out on those things because she's hot?

I never understood being too jealous to be friends with someone because of their intelligence. One of my friends became a millionaire at the age of 24 because of an airplane wing he developed. He's a genius. It would be great to understand difficult concepts so easily like he does, but to not have hung out with him and listen to his other theories because I wanted to have a higher iq...well, that just seems silly. I would've missed out on great conversation.

I never understood not being able to be friends with someone because of their money. I'm going to have to work and not enjoy every luxury known to man, but I never understood stereotyping people with money and snubbing them for what they have.

What I really don't understand is being jealous of somebody because they're well-liked and avoiding getting to know them. I will never be able to understand NOT wanting to get to know somebody because it seems they bring joy to other people who know them.

Personally, I haven't run across too much jealousy. I haven't had many instances of people being extremely jealous of anything I have. The few times someone has been jealous has been a pretty sharp pang. I can take people being mad at me (hehe....I'm used to that!) I'm just glad I don't have much for people to get jealous of! :D

Just a ramble of something on my mind!

Great thread Val, Wish I would have had your wisdom at that age. I don't know that I have that wisdom at MY age. I think you have a lot of insight into people and I wish I had that too. You rock B|B|B|.

First, I think that you have plenty to be jealous of (intelligent, strong personality, extremely witty/sharp, beautiful blond hair/blue eyes, great body/height, etc.), but it's hard for me to be jealous of a good friend. :)
I also cannot say that I have never been jealous of anyone else, especially extremely intelligent people, whom I wish I was like more. (I admire them so much.) Yet, I have to admit that it feels way better to feel happiness for someone's else's intelligence, beauty or good fortune. Also, it feels especially good to be happy for someone who has worked hard for things and is reaping the rewards.

When I feel twinges of jealousy, I try to turn it inward to see what is lacking within myself that may make me feel this way. The best is sharing in someone else's joy and perhaps even learning from that person. In accepting who we are and our "limitations", we can then push them beyond what we had previously dreamed. :)

her threads do, wish I really knew some of you, there are some cool people on dz.com :)

Awww...thanks! There really are some cool people on here! :)
Rosa...you stole my words again! That's what I try to do, too, whenever I feel jealousy. If you turn it around so that you're happy with what someone has rather than be disappointed in what you think you lack...well, that just makes good sense.

As Always Val*, you deliver a very well thought-out thread... I like the points you bring to the .com-round-table of discussion :)
the above quote is definitely on my mind -- because i've witnessed this type of jealousy. it happened (and still does) to a very special friend of mine ~ it's truly sad :(.

similar to what you have stated val*, i don't understand why people can't see the beauty in different personas [:/]. gosh, there is so much to learn from all the different people out there!!

:)personally, i rule out jealousy with a desire for friendship.

Yup! My best friend Erin literally got shoved one time by some really mean women because their "men" were checking her out.

I'm extremely jealous of your jump numbers. I lie awake nights plotting how I can get them...

I agree completely with Val (big surprise:P), and I also wish for more sky pics of Melstarr. I cannot stop staring at her sky pics (sig line). :)
Meli, I adore your suit, rig and incredibly BEAUTIFUL flying. You look absolutely perfect, like a graceful angel in the sky. Please post more pics soon...hopefully, on your website, too. :)

I really try hard not to fall into the jealousy trap. We ALL have something to bring to the table and not all of those traits are the same. I try to look at what I have that I can contribute to the friendship that will compliment my friends wonderful traits.
