Would you want to know when you'll die?

Recommended Posts

Someone hands you an envelope. Inside it has the exact date and time that you're going to die. Do you read it?

What about if someone could tell you when your best friend, spouse, sibling, etc was going to know - would you want to know that?

I would say, "Damnit Bob Barker, you're one to talk you reanimated walking-dead freak!"

Absolutely. If that date couldn't be changed, I'd be able to really cram in some living before that date.B|
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

I could care less. I will live my life the best I can. When I die, I want to know I did my best, had fun and helped a few people. Everything else really is not too important.

Hell Yeah!!!

I'd love to know. It would make financial planning so much easier. Right now I'm putting so much into 401k's and Roth IRA's that it is keeping me from getting a new rig.

Well, that and all the jumps and boogies I have gone to this year. :)
You find out when your going to die, than figure out how much (if anything) you want to leave people and know when (or if) you can quit working.

I'm kind of surprised so many people have said yes. I wouldn't want to know. I think I'd like in fear of the date for the rest of my life or something... dreading it. Let's say getting married and having kids is something you've always wanted to do - what if you know you're going to die in 3 years. Would you really want to leave a 3 year old and your new wife/husband? I'm not sure I'd want to make any new friends, let alone babies! :D

Nope. Live each day as though it's your last. Let those you care about know it. Live life to it's fullest. No regrets on the day you die...no "I wish I would have...." or "I wish I would have said..."
Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. And never regret anything that made you smile.

Yes, because if I know when I'm going to die, I'll know that I'd be able to pull off so many things that I might otherwise be hesitant to do.

It's like in Big Fish .... Once he found out when and how he was going to die, he knew he could do so many things without a problem because he wasn't going to die doing that ....

Also, I would have no problem making new friends or anything. I don't think I'd want kids .... but if I know that I'm going to die shortly, I'll spend much more time with my friends and my family ....

But also, it would be my secret and I wouldn't tell anyone ... maybe a few of the closest people to me near the end, but that's about it

That's a pretty thought-provoking question. I already try to live my life, each day as my last, so I make the most out of EVERY opportunity.
I wouldn't necessarily have to know, but I probably would want to so I could make sure I got in my last few skydives...and OH! making sure all my friends and family knew how much I loved them.

Death is not the end of all things: what we do in life echoes in eternity.

I really wouldn't want to know, but I know that curiosity would get the best of me and I'd open the envelope.

Me too.

I overanalyze most everything that is important to me. If I looked, I'd be worried about my impending death date. If I didn't look, I'd become obsessed with what the date would be. :S

My best friend is already dead (car accident), so I have come to an understanding of life/death and how fleeting life can be for any of us. It's painful, but I have made peace with it.
