I was planning on getting my wife a digital camera as part of her Christmas-I've decided that she would probably enjoy having it during the T'day family events so I need to buy one tonight. I don't have time to research, I need advice---please. One good for gerneral photographs indoor and out. Decent zoom. Thanks guys

If you have an Office Max by your house, they have a good deal on an Olympus one. We got it for my daughter yesterday. It has 3.1 megapixel, digital and optical zoom, comes with an extra memory card and I think a printer. It was about $180.

Lots of good ones out there. For general purpose you really need no more then 3.1 or 4MP, if your planning on only blowing up to no more then 8x10. If you want bigger then you will need higher MP to get it to work.

I have had a couple f HP units but the last one I had had a button go bad after the warranty let out so it does not work well now as it delets a pic every time it is taken. There is a great Nikon 3.1 MP with a Nikkor lens that I bought my wife and she is very happy with it. Compact and comes with a decent zoom. Lots of different modes including movie. Only cost $199 or so. Also uses SD cards which is prettu common. I saw a 512mb SD card at Costco the other day for $45..

Good luck, lots of good choices but for general use stay with a name you know and a common format for storage. Stick to the 3-4MP size for pics for general use and you should be good at about $200

Found this review of the camera I got after a quick search...

These are two really good ones on www.slickdeals.net today.

CircuitCity has the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P52 3.2-Megapixel Digital Camera for $130 w/ free shipping. Lowest on Pricegrabber is $192.

And here's a hell of a deal: Walmart has the Kodak 5MP EasyShare DX4530 Digital Camera and Docking Cradle for $198 + $8 shipping. Lowest on Pricegrabber w/o the dock is $294.

Yep, the Canon Powershot Digital Elph series is really nice. I have the S410 (4.0 mpix) one, and I love it. I can carry it in my coat pocket to parties and stuff when I don't want to lug my big fancy SLR, and it does short mpeg movies which are easy to just copy on the computer and play. Now, the SD20's are really sharp and come in different colors, ooh ahh. Depending on how much you want to spend, I'd recommend any of the Elph series... I know Best Buy and Circuit City carry some of them.
Good luck!

This is the best review site on the web for digital cameras:

http://www.dpreview.com/

Probably too much info to digest in one day. But the hot items tend to be in the "most clicked results" on the the right hand side, for example:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canona95/

What you should get depends heavily on whan you want to use it for, but when you decide where you want to jump in the reviews & comparrisons on this site should help you choose.

I went with the Canon Powershot 3.2 Mpixel. That's plenty enough for us-I did get an extra 128 card. Thansk for all of the advice, now I just have to find someone that knows a lot of little words to explain the manual to me:S

Out of curiousity, at $249 a pop, how many times have you lost it?

One at a Christmas party and one in the Virgin Islands (I was more upset about losing an entire vacation's pictures with that last loss.)
There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
