peacefuljeffrey 0 #26 November 24, 2004 What's going to happen when and if skydiving evolves to no longer use something like closing pins in the future? I've thought about this, since I love symbolism and closing pins happen to be an awesome succinct, elegant and profound symbol for skydiving... For that simple reason (the fact that I wonder about the future of closing pins) I could not bring myself to incorporate them into a tattoo. They just might not always be "timeless." Sort of like you see tattoos of skydivers with belly-reserves... Tattoos done long ago when no one was envisioning what we use today as far as gear is concerned. -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" AggieDave 6 #28 November 24, 2004 Who cares. I'm jumping in the hear and now, if I make it long enough in the sport that there's a total redesign of the gear and my closing pin tattoo is "out of date" then that's fine. I was still there then and it still means something to me.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Zenister 0 #29 November 24, 2004 shouldnt matter. a tattoo is about, should be about what it means to you.. at the moment you get it... unless the closing loop is going to change meanings for you i would think it doesnt matter... of course i'm the one who still hasnt gotten ANY of the tattoos i've thought about and designed..... but i do get to see a few of them on my friends... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. AggieDave 6 #30 November 24, 2004 I have two ideas going on right now...well more then that, but here we go. The vibe and feeling for the first is freedom, skydiving and the open road. I was thinking about some biomech/industrial style wings on my upper back with something like a set of handle bars and controls...something like that, trying to find that vibe and feeling...sorry to use a cliche but carpe diem. The other was something along the lines of a loaded up olympic bar bending under the weight, or a bent 45lbs plate...maybe a 45lbs plate with a chunk missing and bite marks...since I'm a weight lifter who can't stop lifting, I love it.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." peacefuljeffrey 0 #31 November 24, 2004 Quotei've had several fixed ideas for tattoos for years.... still havent gotten any of them... every now and then i'll take them out and play with them, rearrange elements that better reflect my life now, but i still havent had the push to actually get inked..... What you just said, is part of why I don't get tattoos. "Rearrange elements that better reflect my life now..." The danger, to me, of getting a permanent tattoo of "your life now" is that just like you said, it won't be your life tomorrow, and at that point you may regret the tattoo. -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... AggieDave 6 #32 November 24, 2004 Quoteit won't be your life tomorrow, and at that point you may regret the tattoo. No regrets. flyingferret 0 #34 November 24, 2004 I can totally understand what dave is saying here. I have been looking for the perfect tatoo for about 2 years. I want one, and only one, and what it cohesively bond the elements of my life into a statement. Why? Because I want to look at it and have it evoke a feeling, a reminder, etc Some of the same reasons you look at any art that is personally appealing. I have seen Dave's current tats, and the pumpkin is very impressive. I think dave wants a symbol, and and he knows what the symbols stands for. It is simply that the symbol has not become clear yet. I feel the same way and am waiting for a clear vision of something that sums my views about life, jumping, the open road, peace, strength. A mix of carpe diem, pura vida, BSBD, ride to live/live to ride. When I find the right symbol, then the time will be right, and it will serve a reminder of the lens through which I view life.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. Remster 30 #35 November 24, 2004 I too am confused by the tat selection process... thats why I went with Brain's suggestion and getting something called a PA (I'm sure the guy at the studio will tell me what it is before dong it...) Shotgun 1 #38 November 24, 2004 Quotei think this one would cover the long scar on my hip nicely... I originally wanted to get a tattoo to cover the scars on my shoulder (from a car accident)... but when I told the tattoo artist what I wanted, he said it wouldn't work to put it over my scars (though I believe that was only because they are keloid scars)... so I just said screw it, put it on the other shoulder... and now I have scars on one shoulder and a damselfly tattoo on the other. That was about ten years ago, and I've been trying to come up with an idea for another tattoo since then... but no luck... Quoteshorn wing stubs with falling feathers That sounds nice... Quotea bushido koan " the moon in the cold stream as a mirror..." a koan I contemplate often Don't think I've ever seen that, but it sounds interesting... SkydivingNurse 0 #41 November 26, 2004 It took me four YEARS to decide on the design for my one and only (so far) tat. Don't give in to frustration my friend! I almost got a tattoo of Bart Simpson on my arm when I was in the Navy. Thanks be that I wised up (sobered up as well) before I went through with it. BTW, the tat I went with is a caduceus with an intentional flaw in the design, I have all of the preliminary and final drawings, so I can be reasonably sure it won't end up as flash.
