AggieDave 6 #11 November 26, 2004 The COE-D was made by PD waaaay back in the day, before they had moved to Deland. The one I looked at looked a LOT like a more recent (still older) PD "PD" canopy, F-111, square, etc.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." JohnRich 4 #14 November 26, 2004 QuoteThe COE-D was made by PD waaaay back in the day, before they had moved to Deland. Okay, going way back in my memory... There was a guy named Bill Coe... Coe started out building gear bags, then teamed up with John LeBlanc to build parachutes. Coe also created the high-tech laser cutting table for parachute construction. And now we have the well-known and respected Performance Designs company. So I'm guessing that the COE-D canopy was named after Bill Coe? I wonder what the "D" stood for? Maybe this ought to be in the "History" section... P.S. Sorry about hijacking the thread!
cpoxon 0 #15 November 26, 2004 Wasn't the COE-D a PISA canopy?Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
AggieDave 6 #16 November 26, 2004 I'm not sure on that, so I didn't post it, but that was my thought when one of those old canopies turned up at Aggieland in a donated rig for the Texas A&M University Skydiving Club...unfortunately I can't remember what the town was that was printed on the "PD" label on the endcell, though.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." AggieDave 6 #17 November 26, 2004 Quote Wasn't the COE-D a PISA canopy? We have one at my DZ, if PISA is spelled Performance Designs on the endcell's panel, then sure. Is it possible there were two different Coed canopies?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Zep 0 #18 November 26, 2004 QuoteWasn't the COE-D a PISA canopy? BINGO it was made by Pisa under licence from PD. At that time the SA F111 wase'nt 100% an sufferd badly from exposure to ultra violet. The had about a 500-600 jump life (before it lost it's flare due to porosity) Gone fishing
AggieDave 6 #19 November 26, 2004 Quote BINGO it was made by Pisa under licence from PD So that would explain why the canopy at my DZ is labeled with PD's name and not Pisa's name... Cool, new random trivia to file away in the back of my head awaiting a skydiving episode of jeopordy. If I can find it, I'll hang up the canopy and take some pics tomorrow...if I can find it.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
