Zep 0 #3 November 21, 2004 My way of deleting any thing that I can't send to the trash can,is by using DELTREE.EXE for those of you not familiar with deltree, you'll find it on the second disk of MSDOS 6.22 Gone fishing
Zep 0 #4 November 21, 2004 You are absolutly right, But one of the problems I found using DEL is that the deleted item can come back and haunt you. with DELTREE the item or items are oblitorated for ever. Gone fishing

That's if you do it from the command line, deleting for good can be also done from windows, presing SHIFT+DEL__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. Amazon 7 #8 November 22, 2004 I tend to NOT tell people about DELTREE.. in case they wanna delete everything on thier C drive... I worked in PSS ( Product Service and Support) for a while.. and you would be amazed at the things people can do without realizing it.. So I always err on the side of caution. Squeak 17 #9 November 29, 2004 OK now I'm having troubles with the whole system. I've run virus scans (with updated DATs) and Spybot & AdAware, and nothing comes up. BUT My system keeps stalling, it just freezes for a few seconds about 3 or 4 times a mintute it's a complete PITA You would not beleive how long it took to type this Any ideas why it's doing it. System is XP pro with SP2, 2.4 GHz processor, and 512 MB ram,Only programs running are Virus, Dial up, Media Keyboard and IE, and it's slow as F%^&KYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! mnealtx 0 #10 November 29, 2004 A couple things to check: First off...when is the last time you cleaned your system up? All the normal stuff - clean out your Internet cache files, any cookies that aren't to sites you normally visit, things like that. Did you install any new programs shortly before this started happening? Then, defrag your system. After you defrag, restart the system and maybe run defrag again if needed. If that doesn't work, look at the "processes" tab in Task Manager. Look for a program that spikes on CPU time corresponding with your slowdowns. If you get one, that's your culprit. If it only happens when you're online, something could be trying to hijack your browser. Try doing a scan of your system with this. If you've got some rogue program that is trying to steal processor time, this should catch it. There are several web boards out there where you can post the results of the scan and they will help you get anything that shouldn't be there off. Also, try downloading Firefox and use that instead of Internet Explorer. See if the slowdowns go away. Are you using automatic updates? It could be trying to download a large update file. Outside of that, you could check hardware. Make sure your system memory is good, keyboard is good, etc.... *edit* I just noticed you use a media keyboard... do you have a normal keyboard you can swap in to see if it makes a difference? Good luck!Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
RevJim 0 #11 November 29, 2004 Go to the website of the company that made your computer, or at least the major components of it. I had issues similar to yours when I installed SP2. The company didn't know it was an issue. I restored to back before the SP2 install, and all was well again. About 2 weeks later, I tried again, with the same results. This computer is actually listed as incompatible with SP2, pending further research. SP2 is NOT always hardware friendly. It's your life, live it!
