kai2k1 0 #1 November 30, 2004 I went on a google search earlier for song lyrics and I got attacked by trojan horses, what the hell are they?? Do they pose any risk to my PC? Norton caught them and there was about 3 different programs that automatically installed themselves on my pc. I used system restore and then tried to find them in my computer. Is this what I should have done? thanks There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
AggieDave 6 #2 November 30, 2004 I'm guessing you use IE and haven't updated it in a long time?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
kai2k1 0 #3 November 30, 2004 IE is at the lastest version i should have. along with norton being updated this morning. I wonder if it was a fake pop up saying that There's no truer sense of flying than sky diving," Scott Cowan
AggieDave 6 #4 November 30, 2004 I bet it was, then when you clicked on it, you started down the merry road to all sorts of "free" and "good for you" software. I switched to Netscape since a large amount of the stuff on the net is written for IE and Netscape doesn't even flinch.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." davedlg 0 #5 November 30, 2004 There are a lot of lyrics archives out there that automatically try to get you to download software. you will often get some kind of message that asks if you want to download and install some kind of required software when you follow the link. Sometimes it will say the software is required ti view the site...NEVER click "yes". If your security settings are not set high enough, your IE may automatically download and run the software which will invariably be some kind of adware / spyware. davedlg 0 #6 November 30, 2004 Also, there are a lot of pop-ups out there that will tell you you have a virus, adware, system error, or other undesirable condition. The pop ups will try to get you to download their "repair" program which is usually either an unwanted program in itself, or a commercial product which you have to pay for. Whenever you get these kind of messages, always check the source...if it is an Internet Explorer window, you are almost definatly looking at a pop-up posing as a system message. bob.dino 1 #9 November 30, 2004 Use FireFox, or Opera, or something other than IE. If you must use IE, you must be using XP SP2. Otherwise you're exposing yourself to a number of currently unpatched vulnerabilities.
