Things I miss

Recommended Posts

I miss my lappie.

I miss high speed wireless internet access.

I miss waking up in a warm house, walking naked to the kitchen and making coffee from freshly ground beans.

I miss my stereo. It went up to 11.

I miss having a washer and dryer within 8 steps of my closet.

I miss having a closet.

I miss most of my book collection.

I miss seeing the pictures of jumps I made with friends new and old.

I miss having a roof over my head. And being warm. I think I miss being warm most of all.

And we miss your next door neighbor's live video feed of that....;)

Seriously, I do know what you mean though. I've found out that our trailer was trashed. Vandalized. Completely torn to shit, everything that could be carried off or sold stolen and everything else destroyed.

My book collection, baby pictures, mementos....everything gone....

Just gives me a chance to start over...right? Right. [:/]

I've been looking for a tent heater but the only thing I've found says not safe for inside a tent so I'm afraid to send it to her. If anyone can find one or suggest where to look let me know.

Where are you staying? Do you need a trailer?

The Tent Mahal is set up by the Memorial park at Perris. It wouldn't be bad if it were June, but the thermometer says it's not June anymore.

A trailer with heat would be heaven on earth in comparison.

Yup. That's what I keep telling myself. It was just stuff, stuff is replaceable and I had too much of it anyway. Eventually I'll believe the lies I'm telling myself...

Though i think she was wasted at the time.

I miss getting wasted too.

Do your parents live nearby?

They're about a 45 minute drive from the dz. Too far to commute (I also miss gas prices under $2 a gallon! ;)) but I do go borrow their heat, laundry facilities, shower, couch and internet access once a week or so. That's about all the family togetherness I can stand... love 'em dearly but I'm too old to live with them.

If she has any access to electric, an extension cord and electric heater could do the trick.

Unfortunately there is no access to electricity.

Well, there could be but I heard someone got kicked off the dz for doing the extension cord to electric heater in the tent thing. I think I'd rather be cold on the dz than stuck finding another place to pitch my tent... and since my job is on the dz getting kicked off it would be rather inconvienient. :D

That wouldn't be a good thing, no.... but I can think of two possible ways around it, pending approval from DZO, of course:

1. Use heater last thing at night/first thing in morning to warm the place up.

2. Find a "camping style" heater that has a tipover switch in it. That would keep it from being a fire hazard.

Do a search for "Coleman Blackcat" or "Zodi Tent Heater". The colemans start about $40 and the Zodi starts about $140. It depends on the size of the tent as to whether or not the coleman is safe, you need enough space around it to ensure you don't knock it over, and make sure to allow some ventilation in the tent.

What, that hammer never showed up

It showed up. Then it rode around in the trunk of my car - from IL to FL, from FL to NC and back during the first hurricane. Then I took it out of the trunk and put it in my living room. Then the other hurricane hit.

Despite the obvious reaction of metal to sitting in water, it was one of the few things I salvaged from the "this stuff is soaked and going to the dump" pile. It went in a box of stuff I don't need while living in a tent and that box is currently sitting in my kid's storage unit.

Someday it will be returned to it's rightful owner. Until that time I claim insanity as my defense.

Coolio...You know the sentimental value behind it and I'm sure can understand why beating stuff with it is so enjoyable. If you need to, pull it out and give it a wack.
