Dumpster 0 #1 November 19, 2004 Rolled my ankle over on landing just as my full weight was transfering to my feet. Three breaks (tib, fib and ?) close to the joint, some slightly displaced stuff and ligament damage. Two hours in surgery. One plate and eight screws total. Really interesting x-rays. Ouch. I also found out Morphine and Vicodin make me sick, itch like crazy and constipate me. I'm getting used to the pain now so Tylenol takes the edge off things well enough for me. Being laid up sucks. Granimal 0 #2 November 19, 2004 Sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you get better soon. Itching and constipation are very common side effects of opiates. Sickness (vomiting) does occur in some people as well, and will definitely occur if too much is taken.

Dumpster 0 #13 November 19, 2004 Thanks, man. Last ime I had a major break was at age 8. I busted both bones in my right arm rollerskating. Yeah, I'm frustrated as all hell right now. It's seems to be in a painful in all posistions mode, especially if I get up tp move around. I'm going to send my daughter out for a wireless thingy for my laptop so I can PW from the living room. Feel free to use the Chicks Digs Scars - I stole it from some one else myself, so wtf! Later folks! Easy Does It
smooth 0 #14 November 19, 2004 Sorry to hear about your injury. If it's any consolation. . . better now than at the beginning of the season!
tigra 0 #15 November 19, 2004 Well, like my good friends told me last November when I broke my ankle, at least its the "off season", right? Heal fast!
Dumpster 0 #16 November 19, 2004 Yes! It is a lot better now but better not at all - Cest la vie - I had to laugh and call Beer when the nurse in the ER said this was the first skydiver she'd ever worked on. Easy Does It
Dumpster 0 #17 November 30, 2004 Just had to bump this one back up - Saw the sawbones on Friday and got the staples pulled out - My leg looked like it had an industrial-grade zipper installed on it. All but a few of the staples came out nicely. A few stung a bit - I'll have a nice 4 to 5 inch scar on the outside of my leg now. I've got a new blue cast on my leg now and it's gonna be with me until the 22nd of December. My leg is really beginning to atrophy like crazy. I fear gaining alot of weight in the interim. Question is, what the hell can I do to counteract the effects of a highly sedentary convalescence? Pain is temporary. Wounds heal. Chicks dig scars. tigra 0 #18 November 30, 2004 Honestly, just try to watch what you eat and don't eat just because you are bored! Easier said than done, I know! I actually lost a few pounds last year after my broken ankle even over the holidays. I tried to stick to a low carb diet as much as possible(works for me, no lectures, please!Good luck and hang in there! maura
Dumpster 0 #19 November 30, 2004 Thanks so much for the support - ! Right now my diet is fairly light, and low-carb also. I've been able to avoid eating out of boredom - (So I'm working on building up my PW skills -) and I'm drinking 3-4 glasses of lowfat milk each day along with a bottle or two of water. Can't return to work yet due to the nature of my job - (Industrial Mechanic-) But I'm begging my boss to find something desk-bound for me to do somewhere!! tigra 0 #20 November 30, 2004 My job is mostly a desk job, and my co-workers were pretty good about helping out too. Worked out OK for me- my immediate superviser lightened my load and my boss was impressed that I actually returned to work so soon. Work ethic? Actually, I would have been bored out of my skull at home, but I'll take credit for having a good "work ethic" instead!
Bigwallmaster 0 #21 November 30, 2004 Yep. That sucks. Just had ACL/meniscus surgery last spring (April 29th). It was tough. Make sure you take your rehab seriously. If it's any inspiration at all, I was back jumping 6 weeks after my surgery. Granted I was flyging a 230 and sliding my landings, but it was better than nothing. Dumpster 0 #22 November 30, 2004 I have about 2 hours desk work a day, so it would be hard for me to milk that out to 8 hours - Actually I don't want to burn all my vacation time for next year! but looks like I'll have no choice - I can take time off without pay, though.
