tbrown 26 #76 November 30, 2004 QuoteQuote Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind I'm intrigued with the emphatic negative feedback for this film. Why was it so awful? (I haven't seen it, yet.) The pacing is rather slow and it's pretty deep. It dwells on a lot of emotional pain and the difficulty of relationships. I really like it (own a copy), but I don't watch it very often. Trying to think of a few that haven't been mentioned. "Lost In Translation" is wonderful. I really like Salma Hayek's "Frida" a lot. LA confidential for the darker side (ever notice how many films Keven Spacey gets shot to death in - he must hold some kind of record). And finally, a guilty pleasure - "Elf"! I'm not kiddin', I thought it would be dorky until my wife bought a copy, sat me down and made me watch it. It's hilarious. Has a fabulous cast too. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! Muenkel 0 #77 November 30, 2004 "Simon Birch" - but have tissues ready. "I am Sam" - Sean Penn did an awesome job in this film. "Orange County" - if you want something completely silly. On a side note, I am surprised at how many people liked "Trainspotting." Not that a movie has to be a feel good flick, but I found that film empty and downright depressing. _________________________________________ Chris

Agree with you about Lynch and Almodovar. I LOVED Red, Blue and White. I've seen them all, but I would see them, again. Sunny ~ I will definitely check out Amelie!
 VanillaSkyGirl 6 #81 November 30, 2004 QuoteI really enjoyed this movie, however I have also heard it compared to Punch Drunk Love, which I really did not like. You definatly have to get into the story and have some patience to enjoy Eternal Sunshine... I personally think it is one of the best love stories that I have seen in a long time. If you are coming into this movie expecting a typical Jim Carrey movie, you will not like it. I LOVED Punch Drunk Love. Adam Sandler impressed me. It was a total departure from his usual stuff. I do NOT like Jim Carrey's usual types of movies (except for Liar, Liar...loved that), anyway. I'll probably have to rent this movie now to see what I truly think. They are basically musical montages, but very haunting.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. And finally, a guilty pleasure - "Elf"! I really like all those choices, but I've seen them all. Lost in Translation was just wonderful. Fridahas an amazing soundtrack, as well as looks gorgeous visually. Frida Kahlo's life was troubled and dark at times, but for the most part, she led a simply fascinating, exciting life. Sheena ~ Punch Drunk Love is not a conventional film, so I totally understand if you had a hard time watching it. It has some interesting symbolism. The harmonium (little piano) can be said to represent happiness in Sandler's character's life...the way that his life could be if he stepped forward and decided to truly live it. This potential for happiness later arrives in the form of his sister's friend played by Watson. Sandler's character struggles to leave his dysfuntional past behind and tries hard to accept his newly found happiness. His unknowing (because they are insensitive to him), but somewhat emotionally damaging (by making fun of him constantly and overpowering/controlling him and his needs) sisters are a part of this past. He decides to pursue happiness (he even follows Watson to Hawaii) and stands up for himself (physically and emotionally) before the movie is over. It shows him growing emotionally as a person and as his confidence grows, he becomes more confident with the harmonium, as well. I loved how he got the girl at the end. Indie film, rather tongue-in-cheek look at the life of a career temp worker. I enjoyed that very much. If you like a little bit of Tarrentino in your films another good indie was 'Blood, Guts, Bullets, and Octane.' A touch violent, but still quite interesting.
