I just got the phone call. A friend of mine lost her battle with cancer today. She fought a long hard battle, but in the end the disease won. With hugs, tears, and laughter we tried to beat this demon together. Each time I saw her, she greeted me with a hug and a smile. What a sweet smile. She had decided that when she got better she'd do a tandem. We were so looking forward to that day, which will never come now. The other night when I saw her, she knew what was coming and she looked at me and told me she'd be okay. Her body was failing and she was trying to comfort me. What an amazing woman. I consider myself blessed to have called her "friend".

With the holiday season here, I just want you to remember to love each other. Tell your family and friends you love them and let them know how much they mean to you.

It's amazing how people who are fighting such battles can find such inner strength and wisdom. My father is in the last stages of lung cancer after 2 years; he told me not long ago:

"Matthew, when I was 13 and diagnosed with polio I thought I would be dead at 18. I'm 68, and in my mind, every day I have gotten to spend on this earth with the people I love since then has been a gift. I have truly been a lucky man."

I learned of my Father dying(cancer) yet he is not gone.
Those you love may change and pass on but, you will find them with you now more than ever before She might not "read" your mind but, she can still hear your voice. Pray & talk vocally, in your car or where YOU feel comfortable and know she IS listening. Tell her good things, she's been though a lot

I send my condolences to you, and her family. People are on this earth for a reason. Whether it be to show us something, teach us something, or be there when we need them most. She was there for you, as you were there for her, and although she might have passed on. She will always be there with you.
