With that much sleep you're more likely to start gaining weight and feel hungry more often. Fo shizzle

I'm the opposite. When I don't get sleep the pounds drop off at a ridiculous pace. Example - in the last 4 months my fat ass lost 15 pounds. Thanks to my son. I also tend to do things like forget to eat. Like today - I haven't had anything since that cup of coffee at 5:45 a.m.

I'm gonna have a big fat freaking double burger, dammit. And chocolate shake. Maybe a nice leaf of Romaine lettuce lightly seasoned with a quart of mayonnaise, and a few capers just to make it look haut couture.

My sleep varies between two per night ant 10 hours. Usually in the 5-6 range, interrupted by my son waking up and my wife beating me awake when I snore.

The human body, left to its' own devices, will begin to awake within 30 minutes of first light.
If the sun peeks over the horizon at 5 a.m. you can bet that your body, if not in a totally darkened room, will try and wake up very soon after that. We all do. some get up and go to the bathroom. Some slam the snooze button over and over. Some get up and close the blinds in an attempt to make it dark again, but the fact is once you awake, you might as well get up.

Once you are used to arising at that time daily, just start forcing yourself to go to bed earlier each night, even if only 3 or 4 minutes earlier each day. In no time you'll find yourself getting a good night's rest.

Also, turn off the TV sets and radios. What most people don't realize is that when you are sleeping, you are still alert. The only true unconsious time is in a coma with no brain activity. When sleeping, you see light through your eyelids. You hear sounds. You smell, quite well in fact. Even your sense of touch is heightened.

You want good sleep? Dark-Quiet rooms.

I'm an 8 hours + man. My housemates actually laugh at me when i get up off the couch at 9.30pm most week nights and declare that i'm off to bed.

Even on weekends i'd rather get an earlyish night and get up early to enjoy the day to the fullest rather than sleeping late and wasting it.

I like 8 but don't often get it. I have no problem trying to take a nap in the afternoon except there is always too much to do. I agree I usually get up soon after daylight or even before. I can't saste the day sleeping.

Bro,

I know the feeling. I only get 3 hours tops a night. Every since 91 I have not been able to sleep a full 8hours. Even on days that I am working a straight 24-48hrs I still can only sleep 3 hours. I've been in a sleep chamber and the docs have'nt the slightest clue what it can be.

I thought my nightmares were the problem, but no one knows. Taking sleeping pills takes an act of congress for me to do, simply because I've always disliked pharmacutical products in my body. Natural substances OK, but pills is a no go.

I train 3-4hrs a day for triathlons and cannot afford chemicals in my system altering my performance.

4-5 for me, that is all i need. I always feel like i will miss out on something??? Kinda weird.

This is mine too:S. I know how important sleep is, but I keep thinking of everything I could be doing, if I wasn't sleeping! Even at 4-5 hours, it isn't straight through sleeping.:(

not entirely true, sleep patterns are learned behavior as well... for me how many hours i get is less important to how i feel when i wake than what time i have to wake... if left to my own devices i stay up till 3-5 am (coincidental the hour of the 'tiger' when they do the bulk of their hunting for animals with the sleep patterns you refer too)and sleep till 10-1 pm. I've done this my entire life except in the military where i learned to cat nap wake at 630 for pt, shower dress and eat sleep till 0900 sleep 1 hour during lunch, sleep 1700-2200 ish then go out and play till 3-5am and do it again

until i started skydiving i would much rather burn the daylight and play in the night...

i could easily go back to bed now, infact my body really really wants me to.... but this lovely SQT means i cant [:/]

I also get my best sleep in the warm sunshine.....

in addition for those who are interested in dream i find my best, most vivid dreams occur when i'm in the half state, ie right after first waking.. wake, breathe, roll over and dream again for 2 hours... i can actually repeat that pattern for 10-12 hours if i have no reason to leave dreamland...
