Isn't it cool when, *bam*, you get it?

Recommended Posts

I'm studying for my calculus final B|

I'm a math idiot. I took algebra 3 times in college. I could never get the hang of it.

I'm also a computer programming major (ya, 1 + 1 = 3 in this case :D )

But, I'm living proof that practice makes perfect.

I had alot of trouble with finance math; logarithms and such - but the last half of this course was on Matrix algebra and linear programming.

I get it! :)

I just finished my review for the test and got every single problem correct - how cool is that?

It's one of those time when you just shake your head - its just not 'right' that I understand, but I do.

Wierd huh? :D

Good luck to everyone taking finals!! :)

Good luck, Jen.
I'm pretty much the opposite. I 'get' pretty much everything, I just don't want to 'get' some of it. Like my Bio final I have next week. I get it, I just don't care. :S

General Degree Requirements are a necessary evil, I guess.

I'm envious!

If I understod this at the begining of the semester I probably would have had more free time for the stuff I really enjoy.

I've enjoyed school, but I don't know if I'm going to jump into my next degree in the fall like I was planning on. The free time I thought I'd have was pretty much non-existant... so I think I'll just start working first.

Hope all your tests go smoothly Jim :)

Hey , this is just one subject.

Wanna come over and do my macro economics final? :D

Jen

Let me think..............Nope! It's bad enough I have to interpret that class for one of my deaf clients this semester.

Don't stop or even think about taking a break now. Every time you do it just gets harder to find the time, resources, and will to finish. Go all out and get it done. You'll appreciate the time you have after its over a lot more.

I love Math and I hate calculus. You are officially weird if you get that shit.:P

Awesome job and not giving up. Then again you’re not the type of person who gives up. Good Job.:)

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone - I'm off to do test 1 part 1 :o

Johnny - I know what you mean... and I may have the chance to go part time if I get this internship I have an interview for on Monday *fingers crossed*

Thanks again everyone :)

The "light" does come on.

When I was in high school, I was discussing my algebra class with my neighbor. He was a physician who never did well in math. He said that if you do all the homework problems, eventually, it is like a light just comes on. It becomes "clear".

What he said turned out to be true. A few other things that helped me:

For word problems, think of them as puzzles. Puzzles are fun and challenging.

For Calc, I thought of a mental model. A physical object.
Integrals - plot a line on a sheet of plywood. Cut out the line. The remaining sheet is the integral.
Solids - a curve rotated is a vase.

I came out of jr. college with an AS in Math and Finance, but I couldn't find a job and I ended up with a comp degree too.

Math items that relate well to computer work - tables, linear problem solutions, symbolic references.

Glad you are doing well in Calc. :)

Awesome!! I had the same thing happen to me today. We worked on our Diff Eq group project last night, I understood a good deal of the equations, but wasn't understanding why a function was written in such a way. We were all tired. This morning, going through the materials, I UNDERSTOOD! And, our group presentation went great!

YAY!! No more Differential Equations!! I can't wait to sell my book! :D

Computer Programming... and I don't believe I have to do a differential equations course(I'm assuming thats what you mean). Plus, you know you'll get so much more than $50 from the school's book store :P

I have Calc 2 next semester and I'm going to take Linear Programming (an entire course dedicated to it! :o) in the summer.

I hope I'm done after that....

of course, then there's physics, which I'm just about as bad at [:/]

riiiiiight.. I forgot about those generous bookstores. Thanks! :S

Good for you because Diff Eq is the really should be named Difficult Equations! It sux! I'm not a Physics wiz, but I did better in Physics II (electrical circuits, etc) than PHY I (damned pendulum, double pendulum, etc!)

Good luck with your stuff! I agree with the other poster who said keep at it now, no breaks!

Linear Algebra just about killed me. I'm probably going to have to retake it. I've been coding in insurance, tax and healthcare for about 10 years now... the only thing that was useful was all the Stat courses I've taken. I'm not going to be programming robots or antiballistic missle control systems anytime soon...

Skydiving's always been like that for me.

Struggle, struggle, struggle...*bam* I get it. All of the sudden, I can basically do something that eluded me for a while.
Those occasional plateaus are a big part of what keep me in the sport.

*sigh*
Haven't had that feeling in a bit, and the weather absolutely sucks up here.[:/]

The last math course that I had to take for the comp deg was 3rd sem of Calc. My last sem was all electives. I took Diff Eq my last sem with a bunch of other electives like environmental biology.

I am taking a Linear Algebra (Matrix Theory) course next semester

Some of it is solving simultaneous equations.
There are a couple of good practical applications for LA, shipping/logistics and encryption.

For logistics, you load all the coefficients into a matrix and reduce it down. It produces the most efficient way to load a ship.

Cool, sounds fun! I hope that I can spend enough time on each class to really get something next semester as all of my classes will be good knowledge. I've got LA, Org Chem, Lab & C++. :)
